There has been a lot of talk about the format of the national league but I think the time has come where it has to be reformed. It’s not fair putting teams like Kilkenny and Tipp into 1A where they have to play dross like Clare and Waterford. It’s no good for hurling, and they can’t be expected to magically raise their game when it comes to the intensity of championship. Cork to their credit have managed to get out of 1A, and by the nature of their performance last weekend should be well able to hold their place in 1B.
Playing in 1A meant Dublin struggled last year but the superior intensity of 1B this year has improved their hurling by leaps and bounds. 2014 looks bleak already though.
I think its safe to say that as the only team playing 2A this year and still left in the Championship, Laois are now the favourites for the All Ireland.

what really needs to be discussed is how tiresome Limerick’s whinging and crying about the league format had become and how Limerick posters here jumped down anyone’s throat when they dared tell them stop crying about it and get on with winning a few matches.
Thankfully Limerick are winning matches now and this new flippancy about the league structure is much easier to listen to than the whinging.
Others were at it too not just Limerick and its such whinging that leads to the endless tinkering with the league
1B was identified as the place to be since Liam Dunne said he refused to recognise relegation from it. That signified its importance at an early stage.
The league structures are utterly irrelevant.
the penny dropping for limerick supporter’s on that regard will make discussing the competition so much easier next season without the constant droning about the format

Please exclude me from that comment. I have always maintained that I was happy with the league structure.
We were fierce lucky that we avoided the ramifications of Donal O’Grady callously returning us to Division 1 in 2011. John Allen’s greatest achievement has been to snatch maintaining 1B status from the jaws of promotion two years in a row.
Tomás Mulcahy was on the radio earlier saying that the 1A teams were at a disadvantage in the Championship because of the intensity of their league games, and something might need to be done about it.
I swear I heard Muller spouting the exact opposite a few weeks back - on about the disgraceful structure of the league and how the 1b teams were being shafted. was worse than some of the limerick lads here
