McCarthy is a step backwards and will, like Roy Keane, always have the shadow of Saipan hanging over him.

The only upside that I see to appointment McCarthy with Robbie as his assistant would that it might be the final nail in Delaney’s coffin. That and at least it’s not Allardyce.

The FAI would do well to move on. Yesterday I was against appointed Kenny to the role but I’m coming around it to today. He’s been successful in improving the fortunes of so many of the domestic teams, even bringing a terrible Dunfermline side to the Scottish Cup final, that it augurs well for going in with the standard of player that we have currently.

While I think Kenny deserves an interview and should be in consideration, I dont think he is the man for the job and similar to Kerr I dont think the players would take to him.

We have an honest but limited team who are playing with little confidence and proper organisation at the moment. I think someone like Big Mick or Big Sam would definitely get a bounce out of the team and we would be a better side under either of them but our ceiling isn’t all that high and I think even with a soft draw we will do well to qualify for the Euros.

Michael O’Neill has a worse pick in the north and has them playing much better football. Qualified for the same euros as us in 2016.

He also has a similar profile to Kenny.

O’Neill’s teams were never sides who tried to out play teams. He always was about organisation and defensive shape. The logic for Kenny getting it is that he has made Dundalk into a fine side by LOI standards who look to play football. I dont think that is what will work with the current group.

He’s set them up against far superior opposition in Europe and over achieved. That’s shouldn’t be overlooked the achievement with Dundalk in Europe

They should give it to some loi fella and save a few million a year and pump that money into teachi my little childeren to kick a soccer ball to a team mate. The standard of coaching is diabolical. If there is anything left out it into facilities, scummy soccer pitches in Eire are a joke you wouldn’t let cattle out on some of them.
Did you see the state of the pitch above in mullinhar at where the scummy soccer lads bate the shit out of the ref? Jesus if I was involved I’d be ashamed of my life to have my home grounds on the 9 o clock news ooking like a haggard.

Give it to a loi manager and give him 80k a year.
