Apparently Arsenal are on the verge of signing goalkeeper Emilianio Vivianio from Palermo. Wouldn’t say he is any better than Szczesny to be honest.
Wenger is a fucking genius.
Spurs spend 100m to Arsenal’s zero expenditure and they are still Arsenal’s bitches.
Come on you Gooners!
What position is Ozil likely to play for Arsenal? I would presume that he will play the central role between the attack and midfield which is natural position. The thing about this move is Arsenal currently have about 4 players capable of playing that role (Cazorla, Rosicky, Wilshere and Ramsey). I’d imagine Cazorla will now be played out on the wing which is a shame as he is at his best through the midfield and unlike most Spaniards is quite direct and urgent when he gets the ball. I don’t think he is anywhere near as effective out wide.
Ozil is an outstanding player but I’m not sure if he was the type of player they needed. I can’t believe Wenger hasn’t seen the need to go out and sign a centre back either.
I would also presume he will play central, behind Giroud, with Walcott and Cazorla on the wings. I agree that Cazorla may be less effective out wide but he has played a lot of games for Arsenal on the left and been quite good there. When Gibbs is behind him, Cazorla can drift infield and still be a threat.
It was a surprise that Wenger didn’t get in a back up striker for Giroud yesterday as it now looks like Bendtner will be second choice if he can get himself fit. Walcott may also play central too, as he did last season for a while. He can be more of a success in that role this year with Ozil behind him but still would have preferred a more natural centre forward to come in.
Regarding the Centre back, Sagna has been very impressive there when called upon and while Vermaelen is prone to errors he is still as good as most clubs 3rd/4th choice centre halves.
Overall, Ozil was a great signing and Wenger has won back a lot of the fans with it, but I still wouldn’t expect Arsenal to challenge for the title this season. However, it is important that the club is moving in the right direction again and showing a bit of ambition.

Yeah Ozil will also drift wide from a central area which will allow Cazorla to come inside. This was one of the issues at Real - he couldn’t drift out to Ronaldo’s flank because Ronaldo wants apace out there. But for Germany Ozil had always interchanged with other supporting attackers and I could see that attack, with Podolski too (who has obviously played well with Ozil before), doing well.
Keeping Podolski fit this season could be key to success for Wenger. In fairness, i thought Jenkinson played very well last Sunday so i agree with @Monkey Allen that Sagna can fill in at center half. The striker back up issue is still a worry though.

He certainly is. I have always liked Vermaelen. While he is prone to the odd mistake, I think in general he is a good defender.
Podolski’s hamstring injury is a severe tear, @carryharry. 12 weeks has been mentioned.
While I agree that signing a player to play in Ozil’s position wasn’t an urgent need, you sign Mesut Ozil if he becomes available. He’s sheer class and I expect us to have a strong tilt at the title now.

Where Ozil goes, others will follow.

Ah fuck it, pal. I thought initial reports of the injury were a recovery of 3-4 weeks.
It’s been a magnificent few days.
A front four of Cazorla, Özil, Walcott and Giroud sounds fucking wonderful.
There’s still about £60m available to spend so I would expect them to try for a striker in January. Vermaelen should be back after the international break so the defensive crisis has eased somewhat.
Meanwhile, enjoy this:

He makes the odd mistake but he is a true fucking Gooner. Respect Wojciech.
Arsenal close to signing Ciprian Marica on a free transfer, he was highly rated as a youngster but his career record up until now would suggest he’s shit.
Yeah he was very highly thought of when he was breaking into the Shakhtar team back in the day but he’s been poor enough in the Bundesliga. Still thought he might have interested Celtic or someone when he was released but probably values himself higher.
2-1 up with 8 mins left in the 1st half, goals from Ramsey & Per.
It is very easy on the eye viewing.
Arsenal will have the league wrapped up by St. Patrick’s Day.
Far and away the best team in the league.

We can do this.
