The Official Cork GAA 2017 Thread

Donal O’Grady and Donal Og did untold damage to Cork hurling despite their obvious intentions to do the obvious.

The coaching circuit is a major issue. There is an unbelievable amount of jokers coaching Senior and Premier Int. hurling. They are fucking drill obsessed.

Smallest Cork minor team in a long while

U16 in particular and also Minor to a lesser degree had been brilliant in both codes for 10-15 years.

That has never been the problem.

The problem is the lads who want a tracksuit getting on coaching tickets.

In a related article he said the county board would be appointing all team management from now on. Kinda the final nail in the “victory” achieved by the striking hurlers led by Cusack.

Here is the quote and the article (mind you have to dig fairly deep to find it)

“The executive will take responsibility for appointment of coaches and selectors.”

Ya thats the word abd that goes all the way down to u14 regional development squads.

They will ship Kevin O’Donovan off and appoint a more agreeable (but no doubt completely under qualified) coaching officer.

However there isn’t a snowballs chance on hell Ronan Mac would take the job other than being his own man. Just would not happen.

I was talking about the hurlers

Yip the hurlers. Cork have been picking huge but sometimes useless hurlers at Minor & u21 for a while. This years minors and last years as well maybe is the first move away from that.

He is an interesting character. Did you read this?

He’s brimming with strong ideas, like on dual players. Allow it at club level. Allow it at county development squad level to about 14. But then, sorry, you have to make a choice. “You’re going to try to beat Kerry one night and then Kilkenny the other? Come on!”

Ya. He just expresses what everyone else knows.
He is a committed man and while he wants success he understands the basic principals of participation and rentention first, Elite second.

I don’t agree entirely with their coaching structure or approach, but thats simply becaise they know no better. He is known to be open to change and the scary thing for the rest of the country is a few of the really top coaches are slowly being drafted in

I will say, in his defence, he is the bridge between the old and the new. He is overseeing a slow shift in thinking.

We’ve won the U-14B, U-15A, U-15B and U-16B. Didn’t get out of group stages in U-14A and U16A.

Look at that CIT team - what a joke.

In what sense?

I presume in the sense that theres fuck all Cork lads on it and they are knocking out Cork teams

I presume thats PIO’s young fella who came on as a sub?

Friend went to see CIT hurling the other night. Said they had 17 at throw in and more subs gradually arrived on during the first half! Assume most had played club games already that day. Duly hammered anyway

So what.

Douglas should be better. But they keep getting bluffers to manage them.

I had a client playing and he excelled, so i’m delightee with CIT to be honest
