The Official Cork GAA 2017 Thread

The top teams Mayo have to contend with are miles ahead of the teams cork had to deal with. You’d only really Kerry in that time period. Tyrone were on the way down.

But that was the point, Cork weren’t able to get over the line when Kerry/Armagh/Tyrone were at their peak, and when they were all on the wane, Kerry included, they slipped in and picked up their All Ireland. Job done. Mayo had their chance when Donegal appeared, and couldn’t take it. Donegal were better than Down, sure, but thems the breaks.

The only victories of merit Cork have in their glory years was a victory over a waning Tyrone side in 2009 where Sean Cavanagh was not fit to start and a victory against a stuttering Dublin side in 2010.

That’s it.

I just googled the roll of honours there, mate - It said nothing about soft against any All Ireland ever won. Bizarre.

That Down side were never close to an All Ireland in the preceding or subsequent years yet Cork only managed to pip them by the most slender of margins. Down came closer to an All Ireland than they did an Ulster in that time.

Not even 2013? Was there even an asterisk?!

They beat what was in hindsight the start of the greatest Dublin team of all time in the semi final in a cracker of a battle

Or a Dublin team in the final stage of of a process of honing and fine tuning their system, and in turn, casting off their final mental weaknesses.

They also shed a few weak links to say the least, the Dublin team in 2010

Dublin: S Cluxton; M Fitzsimons, R O’Carroll, P McMahon; K Nolan, G Brennan, C O’Sullivan; R McConnell, MD McAuley; N Corkery, A Brogan, B Cullen; D Henry, E O’Gara, B Brogan.

Dublin team in 2011

DUBLIN: Stephen Cluxton, Michael Fitzsimons, Rory O’Carroll, Cian O’Sullivan, James McCarthy, Ger Brennan, Kevin Nolan, Denis Bastick, Michael Darragh MacAuley, Paul Flynn, Barry Cahill, Bryan Cullen, Alan Brogan, Diarmuid Connolly, Bernard Brogan

Cork 0-12 Waterford 1-10 at halftime.

Waterfurd sent home with their tea in a mug.if they played the all ireland off next week we would be in with a right shout

What was the score chief?

25 pts to 1 19…mcgrath must have seen the limerick result and played a 2nd keeper or something
