Wasnât Martin Coleman from ballinhassig also?
A long line of goalkeepers in the club
Ya. And his dad was the 3 in a row keeper in 70âs
Unbelievable run of keepers.
They get an awful lot out of a few families. McCarthys, Lombards, Collins and
Yeah its fucking unreal!
He played Minor hurling last year at center-back and Minor football this year.
What we definitely need is another half-back that is utterly hapless under a dropping ball.
Iâd be gobsmacked if he was even on the panel next year, Iâd say the bench will get a big makeover.
Well aforementioned Ryan Walsh was a standout.
I was generally disappointed with Ballinhassigs stronger players bar whichever Collins was in goal.
Cornac Murphy was centre forward for Mallow and did a few good things but largely game by oassed him. He doesnât seem overly bothered if i am honest.
One of the Hayes might be worth some bit of a look in the inside forward line. Maybe a bit of an Aisake or poor mans Setanta, but there is a level of ability there, i definitely think their strength & speed could improve. One of them is better than the other (of the 2 in FF line), just not 100% on names. Sheehan in corner forward was very tasty, got some lively scores. No idea of age or anything but he looked young.
Cloynes best players were Killian cronin, Paudie Sull and Colm Sull with flashes from the 2 Cahills. But that says it all really. Donal Og looked a bit disinterested as well. They need a few more young lads quick. They were fit and highly competitive, but miles on the click got them.
They had a few desperate wides near the end. Game was still there for them but they didnt really play like it
What is the story with Kanturk and hurling? Never a hurling area and all of a sudden producing Cork potential level players? Are they all blow ins?
No. I think it was down to pure disorganisation. And they played the long game. Getting rewards now.
Very noticable most of the population bases in cork are getting their act together.
There is no reason anyone anywhere cannot produce top players.
Give someone the resources and the time and you could go to Kenya or India or anywhere and produce County Minor standard teams. Its pyrely down to development and a long term view.
Thats if tgere is no culture. If a culture already exists then its a different approach.
Its why i always laughed when lads suggested we should copy nemo. Them with their 18 counties and 25k populationđ
Ya they panicked. And it was Donal Og, Sully and Paudie who were to blame. Piling in FF and failed completely to keep composure. Mallow still have that townie element. The cracks were there to see. How they kept 15 on is beyond me, when well in control.
I think Kanturk should play on that. Townies also but they seem a bit more resolute. Ballinhassig are not a dirty side but theyâll give it to you and they gave Kanturk plenty yet they carried on making good decisions.
Always strong if not particularly succesful tradition of hurling. The restructure of underage competitions where they now compete in north cork and not just duhallow ( which is predominantly football) gave huge opportunity to improve and develop
I assume that is Aaron Sheehan, should 23 or so by now.
Ya it was Aaron. Tidy.
But he was doing the whole John mullane/dubs in your faces/fist oumping kind of combo.
Cloyne lad buckled him about 20 mins in and it quitened him till near the end.
Youâve gone some issue with the âtowniesâ lad. Sure almost everyone is a townie in this county unless they are from the city.
Brian Turnbull did his cruciate apparently.
Ah yes but lads from big towns like Kanturk will look their noses down at lads from backwaters like Boherbue or Newmarket,
Surely you know how this works being from a metropolis like Castlemartyr, wouldnât ye turn up yere noses at lads from ladysbridge and Kileagh?
Nope they are not. There are city teams, country teams and townies.
There is a pattern with townies of falling apart. Both the city and country teams often seem more together.
Mallow are the best example in years of this. Its absolutely hilarious they still have not won the Intermediate football. They nearly bottle it yesterday too. If it was ballinhassig for instance they would have had the smarts more than Cloyne to pull ot off.
No mate? There is no discernible difference between those three places.
I was only balhoppin mate, I find the townie thing a bit funny, where do you draw the line?
