Desperately poor captaincy from Root not to bowl in good bowling conditions. The Australian batting line up has been fragile for a while too and should have been tested from the off. Straight away Root handed them the initiative from the off and allowed them to showcase the strongest facet of their game. It was an outstanding display of bowling, which a batting line up as poor and fragile as England have, were in no way equipped to withstand.
The decision to omit Stuart Broad likely to be shown up as another disastrous blunder in Day 2.

Will you stop. Win the toss you bat all day long.
As Ian Chappell said after Edgebaston in 05, win the toss you bat 99% of the time. The odd occasion you think about sending them in you bat anyway

@ChairmanDan blaming the toss rather than the whole mood being set by the first ball

If Root had fielded and the Aussie openers put on 50 heâd be decrying his captaincy also. Joe canât win, the only English batsman who would get near an Aussie side too btw

The first ball was a Starc reminder to England of what is to come.
They may as well begin a Root and branch review of their Ashes debacle now.

Hot one day, boiling the next.
Brisbane is cooler than NSW or Victoria mate
The last four tests at the Gabba have been lost by the side that batted first.
Itâs seemingly been one of the wettest early summers in Brisbane in many years. Bowling friendly conditions. A side with such a fragile batting line up as England, with not much of a build up should have bowled first.
Any posts to this affect before the test began mate?
Could you speak in Queenâs English please. Youâre not making any sense.
Reminiscent of the first ball bowled by Steve Harrison back in 2006.

did you mention the importance of bowling first prior to the test?

Aus would have batted first also.
Be interesting to see how this England attack fares out. Bowling conditions seemingly should be reasonably good on Day 2. The omission of Stuart Broad is just baffling though. Heâs terrorised David Warner for the best part of a decade now. Indeed all the left handed Australian batsmen struggle against him. He had the number of both Travis Head and Marcus Harris in 2019 as well.
What sort of banalities are you spamming me on now?
I was talking about the difficulties that left handed batsmen have in dealing with Stuart Broad.
Warner scored 95 runs in 10 innings in the 2019 Ashes and was dismissed in 7 of those 10 innings by Broad.
