Plus he is always getting injured

looks like the england supporters have already written off the ashes

Archer is injured and out of the series so it’s as pointless as speculating what England could have done in 2002/03 with Flintoff or Stokes in 2017/18.

Just looking at the bowling figures for today.

Woakes 20 overs, 56 runs, 2.80 economy, 1 wicket
Robinson 18 overs, 48 runs, 2.66 economy, 3 wickets
Wood 20 overs, 57 runs, 2.85 economy, 1 wicket
Stokes 9 overs, 50 runs, 5.55 economy, 0 wickets
Leach 12 overs, 95 runs, 8.63 economy, 1 wicket
Root 6 overs, 29 runs, 4.83 economy, 1 wicket.

The three front line quicks bowled 58 overs and conceded just 161 runs. Economy rates not too shabby for either of the three of them.

Cummins, Starc and Hazelwood had economy rates of 2.88, 2.93 and 3.13 respectively yesterday.

The spinner and the part time spinner who had to take over bowled 18 overs and conceded 124 runs.

Biggest problem for England by a country mile is the batting is hopeless. It’s been compounded here by the calamitous captaincy and selection decisions in selecting Leach ahead of Broad and electing to bat after winning the toss.

Monty Panesar like figures from Jack Leach out there. He’ll always have that nightwatchman stint against Ireland to look back on.

I received a WhatsApp from @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy just before 11pm last night. It read :

“Really need to ram home the advantage tonight. Hopefully we can bat through the whole night and finish up something like 7/345, give or take a few runs or a wicket”.

The man is a genius when it comes to Ashes cricket at the Gabbatoir

As a point of order going forward, can we please all use the wickets/runs format when discussing the scoring.

For example, during England’s 2nd innings collapse, please use 8/99 as opposed to 99/8.

Thanks in advance

This is an England cricket supporters thread. We invented the game. If you want to record scores in some bastardised incorrect form that they use in Australia, maybe set up your own Australian supporters thread.

yes agreed, using 99/8 doesnt sit right with me, its just not cricket

That’s settled then.

Thanks. Wasn’t sure if it would be agreed upon.

Was Cameron Green’s dismissal accompanied by the graphic of a surly duck cricketer, a staple of the overseas series?

And I’m confident it holds: if Stokes wasn’t English, but from a certain other country or other, our outrage wouldn’t be at bowling indiscipline/umpire oversight, but around speculation of match-fixing. Which is a horrid thought, tbh. #ashes” / Twitter

wow @ChairmanDan , say it aint so

A tough time for Ben at the moment. Quite apart from all his fitness and injury travails, Wednesday the opening day of the test was the first anniversary of his fathers untimely passing.

Wait till he is found guilty of match fixing before you try and justify it. There is absolutely no evidence that he has done anything wrong

What are you rabbiting on about now?

:rofl::rofl:

England 107/2 at tea on Day 3.

Useful partnership developing between Malan and Root. Currently at 46. England really need the pair of them to be still there at stumps.

England 161/2

Century partnership up between Malan and Root.

England 213/2

152 partnership Malan and Root. Big last 10 minutes for England now to get through to stumps with this partnership unbroken.

Last over of the day. What could possibly go wrong for England.
