As you predicted before start of play

There’s real anger amongst the England cricket community over this utter shambles. Nobody surprised though. It’s the inevitable conclusion to the ECB effectively giving up on test cricket nearly a decade ago and prioritising pyjama cricket nonsense. Heads have to roll for this.

how did you do in the ashes that took place in oz nearly a decade ago?

Won 3-1. An innings victory for England in each of the three tests in Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

And your point is? I’m talking about the events of a decade ago and the long term consequences of how decisions made by the ECB have impacted on the England test cricket team. A decade ago from the current year of 2021 is 2011.

I don’t know what point it is you’re trying to make about events of 7/8 years ago in 2013/14, nor do I have any interest in finding out.

The year 2011 saw England wrap up a 3-1 Ashes series win in Sydney, their third innings win of that series. A series win which sealed a 7 year period from 2004 at the top or close to the top of the test rankings.

2011 saw a dismal performance by England at the World Cup, including an ignominious loss to Ireland. It was in the aftermath of that 2011 World Cup in India that the fateful decision was taken by the ECB to prioritise pyjama cricket and the downgrading of test cricket.

I wouldn’t get into a debate on Ashes cricket with @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy if I were you but each to their own

Fire up @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy predictions there for Day 4 in Adelaide. Not going to get to follow the action in the morning so might as well get the results now.

He doesn’t send them until just before play begins.

He needs to see pitch, weather, forecast etc

3.30 am start. Fire them up beforehand. Bit of rain about in Adelaide on Sunday.

Just tuning into this now. Australia have declared on 230/9. A lead of 467.

England have to bat out about 140 overs to save the test match.

Hameed out for a duck.

4/1

Who has the rights to this TV wise, Dan?

Hope you & family are all well and set for xmas :+1:

BT Sport with Australian commentary. It’s a pretty shocking production on the whole apart from Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist who are very good and the lone English voice in the commentary box, Isa Guha, who is excellent.

Matt Smith is the anchor back in the studio and he hasn’t a breeze about what’s going on.

England 20/1 at tea.

I got a WhatsApp from @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy at 3.07.

It read as follows:

“The BT Sport guys think we will be declaring when we get to a lead of 450. Looking at the forecast I think we have an opportunity to stretch it out a bit more. I predict we’ll declare with a lead of say 467-470”.

Unreal.

@Little_Lord_Fauntleroy is going to really tire himself out if he’s up just after 3am, an hour before the start of play. Was BT Sport even on air at 3.07am? Is it not a 3.30 start in the studio, half an hour before the start of play.

I can only assume he was watching Ashes Brunch on BT Sport Australia.

Root falls in the last over of the day and it’s stumps. 82/4. Any slim hope of England saving the test all but gone with that.
