Broady got a really horrific concussion from a bouncer against India about a decade ago, a short time after the Australia opener Philip Hughes was tragically killed. He lost his nerve really as a batsman after that.

His father Chris Broad was a great opening batsman for England. Player of the Series in the Ashes win in 1986/87 in Australia, where the England team were famously described beforehand as only having three problems - they can’t bat, they can’t bowl and they can’t field.

Chris became an umpire later.

That’s 6 consecutive tours of England now by Australia without recording a series win. It’ll be 26 years since the last time Australia won in England in 2001 by the time the next Ashes series in England rolls around in 2027. Australia only ever went 6 series without recording a win in England once previously and that was across the first 6 series played in England between 1884 and 1896 before winning at the 7th time of asking in 1899.

The longest England ever went without an Ashes series win in Australia was 24 years between the 1986/87 and 2010/11 series wins.

Australia hold the Ashes for four consecutive series, their second longest stretch since 1968 :australia::australia::australia::australia:

Thug life

The bad example set by the gin soaked oiks in the Lords Long Room has filtered down to the players.

Wait until @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy gets wind of this

Bazball toiling on a spinning Hyderabad dirt track. We’re 215/8. Captain Stokes still there on 43 not out.

Stokes carrying the team again.

Stumps on Day 3 in Hyderabad

England 246 & 316/6 India 436

We lead by 126 runs. An unbeaten 148 from Ollie Pope has dragged us back in to the match.

Need another 150 to have a chance I reckon.

Probably. Doesn’t help having spinners that wouldn’t turn the ball on corrugated iron. The best spinner is the part timer.

The spinner for the ladies turns it more than leach.

Ollie Pope last man out on 196 as England make it to 420.

India will have to chase down 231 to win.

India 42-2 at lunch. Rohit dropped on 10

I’ve been mostly watching the end of proceedings at the Gabba. I see Tom Hartley has just picked up 2 wickets in 3 deliveries.

Bowling better apparently.

Huge wicket as Hartley strikes again Sharma is trapped lbw.
