The Official FIFA World Cup 2010 Build-Up Thread

NYC 12th June 2.30pm. Tsk glug glug glug.

In a one off game, yes you are correct, most sensible people will agree. But a striker’s overall scoring record is really how he’s going to be judged, to say anything else is fairly retarded.

Lighten the weight you tool.

So you agree you were talking thru your hole about Gabby, Villa and me originally.

Thats fine so.

No, not at all. Villas real ambition’s seem to mirror yours in alot of ways. Just do enough to get by, not a lot else.

Very unfair that Villa’s admirable loyalty to Valencia is construed as a lack of ambition. I expect him to prove Kev completely wrong and reaffirm his status as one of the world’s best strikers in South Africa this summer.

I think you’ll find that CC quoted EPL stats which does compare “apples with apples.”

Your great Aston Villa message board source gave stats for all competitions for Ashley Young which are wrong I’m afriad. He played 37 times in the league, 2 games in Europe, 11 in cup competitions in England. So there was really no need for you to go out of your way to dig up your own stats. CC had already posted correct ones. Posting incorrect figures didn’t really do much to clear things up. Thanks for trying to make a contribution though.

How has this thread descended into a debate on Gabby fucking Agbonlahor and Aston Villa? Its the fucking World Cup after all. To hell with them.

We doing a Predictions Comp on this btw?

Anyway enough about Ashley Young and KIB’s dodgy stats.

German squad hasn’t got a mention here yet I don’t think.

They played Malta in a friendly yesterday and won 3-0 but it was a half development squad with Bayern players missing etc.

No callup for Kuranyi anyway. Kießling is probably the striker in best form but he’s unproven at international level. Klose hasn’t had a look-in at Bayern recently really but his world cup record is second to none I suppose. A few decent young players in there (Ozil, Boateng and Marin in particular) but hard to know if they’ll play much at all.

How do you do the ‘ss’ thing for Kiessling? Rocko, you’ve mentioned him on and off and seem to rate him. Tell me a bit about his style, please - he’s linked with us as Toni is considered too old and costly apparently.

ß is Alt+225 from your keypad on the right hand side.

Kießling is a tall striker, about 6’2 or so. Good in the air but not a beanpole type player. I haven’t seen that much of him in recent months but always thought he had something about him when he first got into the Leverkusen team. Got on the end of a load of chances and just a nice bit of direct stikerness about him. Not unlike someone like Cardozo at Benfica maybe.

Second top scorer in the Bundesliga this year and still got a bit of improving to do I’d say. Probably took a back seat to Helmes a bit last year but he’s the main man now.

Toni would be a fantastic buy for Celtic. He’d cause wreck up there.

He certainly would be but he’s way outside Celtic’s budget.

think England have a great chance of reaching final in this world cup… :o

Why would he be even linked so?

Or is it a Kevin Doyle linked with Juve story?

He’s not linked; I was directly replying to your comment that he would be a good signing for Celtic.

See Bolded

Forgive me for thinking you were talking about Celtic.

I was talking about Kiessling. Keep up.

And Toni, going to “us”. I just presumed “us” was your beloved Celtic. I mentioned he indeed would be a great buy for Celtic, but unbeknown to myself you were talking about ANOTHER club altogether.

Now i realise it could be any club between Manchester and Rome.

Not sure what you’re on about, Kev. I think you’re getting bogged down here but hopefully this will clear things up for you:

  • I asked Rocko what Kiessling was like.
  • You said Toni would be good for Celtic.
  • I agreed with you.
  • You wondered why he would be linked with Celtic.
  • I said he wasn’t.
  • You replied with the “post” above, which I’m grappling with.
