The Official Irish Times Best Places to Holiday in Ireland Thread
Smashing couple of days out west. Arrived in Westport at Thursday lunchtime and then went for a stroll through Westport house grounds and quay and back up through the town. Few porter in Matt Molloys and Morans. Stayed in the Castlecourt which was grand - only €5 supplement on the set menu for the Tbone so that was had.

Did Croagh Patrick the next day. Have to say was fooked for the first hour but grand after that. Some view at the top. Then back in the car after and straight to Galway. Jacuzzi and pool once we arrived to ease out the stiff legs. Fish and chips that evening in McDonaghs and bit of a pub crawl before ending up in An Pucan on Forster St. They have done some job on it compared to tje kip it was a few years ago. Serious tail in it too.

Next day drove out the coast road through Spiddal and Gaeltacht area to Clifden. Some smashing views. Bit of lunch/porter in Kings, few bets in Boyles and cracking game of pitch and putt under blazing sun in Hazelbrook out the Westport road. Back in the jammer then and tea and scones in Ballinahinch Castle en route back to Galway City. Few cocktails in the G, dinner in the Asian Tea House and off to bed. Stopped in Kilbeggan yesterday for bit of the Spurs game and then motored home just back in time for the GAA.
Smashing few days Spidey. I was in Westport on Saturday and it was crawling with tourists. Westport House is a great day out if you have kids.

I know the fella running the Pucan, has renewed his lease for another 10 years in July, He sunk a huge amount of money into it a few months ago but its staring to pay itself back already.

You got a ‘wedding room’ mate… chances are you were in the older part of the hotel. Spidey was probably in the newer part.

Fine review there @Spidey
Think I will follow suit next week.
Is this not the case with every hotel room you stay in unless it’s a suite?

To be honest for 120 for 2 with a very decent dinner, I was happy enough.
That was good.

We paid 170 for two which was the wedding rate.

You got mugged off mate.
Mugged off good and proper.

For 1 or 2 nights? I stayed in that hotel for my stag and thought it was good - couldn’t have done anymore for us. Think we paid €150 per room for 2 nights B&B and a dinner.

Among the wedding guests staying there we actually were one of the lowest.

It was a Saturday night in Westport in summer.

Same sort of deal for cesc4 's stag a few months ago. Seems like @farmerinthecity has been mugged off alright.

At least @farmerinthecity wasn’t afraid to spend money, unlike that tight cunt @glasagusban

The one night.

That’s why I brought it up.

If I was properly mugged off I would admit it but I genuinely think we were one of the better ones, while at the same time paying over the odds.

Typical accountants - spent the whole meal discussing who got the best value on the rooms.

While making sure that the glass was passed with every ‘thank you’ uttered by the best man.

Right lads, have 3 days to head off with the lady. Wednesday to Friday job.

Any recommendations?

Westport sounds okay, cunt of a drive though.
Have done Cork & Kerry so not options.

Time off in early September.

Cheap and cheerful or a bit of luxury harry?

Bit of luxury, @Mac

I’d say head to either Cork or Kerry

The Cliff House in Ardmore would be a handy enough spin for you. @Fagan ODowd will sell you on the area itself I’m sure.

Im going to a wedding in Wexford next week

its in dunbrody house

anywhere worth seeing around there?

is it in new ross?

I’d recommend setting up a ‘Calling @Gmail’ thread as its his part of the world.
