A 27-year-old man was arrested in Co Limerick yesterday in connection with the robbery of three elderly pensioners who were assaulted and tied up in their home.
Willie Creed (74) and his elderly sisters Nora (72) and Chrissie (66) Creed were subjected to a terrifying ordeal when two men armed with knives and a makeshift sword entered their home at Ballyluddy, near the village of Pallasgreen, Co Limerick, at about 10pm on May 31st last.
The elderly siblings, who suffered a number of cuts and bruises, were tied up with cable ties at their isolated farmhouse for almost three hours before their brother Tommy (69) came to their rescue.
The victims were traumatised after their ordeal but have since been released from the Mid-Western Regional Hospital were they received treatment for their injuries.
The man arrested was being held last night at Bruff Garda station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act, which enables him to be detained for up to seven days.
