Iām thinking of getting involved with my parish in Dublin. Iām keen to engage with God and get to know him again.
You could be doing a lot worse bandage
The only issue I have with you and your posse is the systematic and coordinated bullying of ordinary decent open minded folk like @Fitzy. He has every right to come to his own conclusions on religious affairs without being castigated and demonised by certain sections of the forum. The aggressive fashion with which his queries were addressed would suggest a deep seeded insecurity amongst the boards Catholic fraternity
this is a peaceful environment @Fran
if some heathen bastard comes in here and statesā¦
I detest the Catholic Church and I think religion is the single most stupid and dangerous thing mankind has invented.
then we will take offence and assume he is not as you state
an ordinary decent open minded folk like @Fitzy.
in other words @Fran, fuck off for yourself.
I appreciate thatās an unfair generalisation from @fitzy but is it not fair to say that there are some elements of the Catholic Church that are utterly detestable
There are elements of everything that are utterly detestable. Hell thereās even elements of the Limerick hurling support that are utterly destestable
up to yourself, i have a bit of faith and it harms no one. i like to tie this in with the catholic church.i get a bit of comfort from it. it helps as im relatively stable compared to an awful lot of heathens i see around the place,
it doesnt make me weird or stupid and its not bizarre.
what would be bizarre would be if for example i said i was never swimming in Wexford ever again, not on the beeches or the rivers or the pools.
Not really, Wexford is an entirely detestable spot
On the subject of your religious beliefs thatās an entirely respectable stance for you to take. Iām in limbo at the moment myself, which in some ways is worse than āblind faithā as some would call it. I look at my folks there and theyāre fully convinced theyāre off to heaven when the time comes, whereas Iām not convinced. I envy them for this
Hundreds of gods recorded prior to the birth of Christ as being born on the 25th of December, under a wandering star, to a virgin motherā¦ The Catholic Church readily admits that Jesus was not born on the 25th December, they are unsure of his birthā¦ the early Christians stole the idea to incorporate pagan beliefs, just like they have done with all their holidays (All saints/all souls is the Celtic New Year or Halloween as we call it). Hereās just one example of such - the characteristics of the (Egyptian) āSun of Godā
ā¢ In some areas, the calendar originally began in the constellation of Virgo, and the Sun would therefore be āborn of a Virgin.ā
ā¢ The Sun is the āLight of the World.ā
ā¢ The Sun ācometh on clouds, and every eye shall see him.ā
ā¢ The Sun rising in the morning is the āSavior of mankind.ā
ā¢ The Sun wears a corona, ācrown of thornsā or halo.
ā¢ The Sun āwalks on water.ā
ā¢ The Sunās āfollowers,ā āhelpersā or ādisciplesā are the 12 months and the 12 signs of the zodiac or constellations, through which the Sun must pass.
ā¢ The Sun at 12:00 noon is in the house or temple of the āMost Highā; thus, āheā begins āhis Fatherās workā at āageā 12.
ā¢ The Sun enters into each sign of the zodiac at 30Ā°; hence, the āSun of Godā begins his ministry at āageā 30.
ā¢ The Sun is hung on a cross or ācrucified,ā which represents its passing through the equinoxes, the vernal equinox being Easter, at which time it is then resurrected.
Even the worship of a man on a cross predates the story of Christ by hundreds of yearsā¦ the cross is a pagan symbol of the sun and the crossing/resurrection of it at the vernal equinox i.e Easter ā¦ this is still how the Catholic church determine when Easter is today ā after the vernal equinox ā carrying on their tradition of raping pagan beliefs and traditions. Catholic scholars also readily admit/ teach that the resurrection didnāt actually happen, again, itās just another story or parable.
So ā Hundreds gods born to a virgin mother before this Jesus guy ā There was no resurrection and Easter and Christmas, further to every other Catholic holiday, are stolen from a number of pagan religions.
Of course you then have the classicā¦ the bible says ā¦ the bible doesnāt say anything, itās a book. People interpret what is written in the bible to suit themselves, but the bible is a man-made construction edited over the years by other men ā most notably the pagan (thereās a trend here) ruler of Constantinople.
I could go on and onā¦ but Jesus, and Christianity, is a collection of stories, myths, legends and philosophies from a certain time and place. If you wish to subscribe to these 2000 year old myths and beleifs then thatās your choice, but I donāt need science to tell me itās a load of bullshit, the evidence does that all on its own. People turn to religion out of fear. You can dress it up any old way you want, but people are afraid of being in control of their own destiny and need the comfort of believing there is a creature in the sky out there looking out for them (but not other people who suffer apparently). They also need the comfort of believing they will see loved ones again. To contemplate or accept either of these is too over-whelming for a lot of people so they clutch onto a security blanket ā religion.
God is an all powerful being capable of doing anything.
Thatās the human condition tho mate - we are hot wired to believe religion/higher power - itās a security blanketā¦ whereas to throw off your blanket will create a crisis - the realization that you are on your ownā¦ Do you take the red pill or the blue pill?
Great comback - thatās all you lot haveā¦ but yeah we see his destructive magic all around us every day.
Iāll get the - happier are those who beleive - line by the end of the day no doubt.
But go on anyway, which god are you banging on about? Thereās only been tens of thousands of them throughout history.
I believe in there being an all powerful God. You hold blind faith in scientists who are not infallible.
Where have I said I hold blind faith in scientists? Iāve shown the fallacy of Christianity up with nothing more than highlighting the contradictions and inaccuracies in its own belief system. I donāt need science for that, I just need reason.
Your fallacy is flawed as you donāt believe in all powerful being. My faith tells me there is such a thing, science tells you there isnāt.
You may be hot wired but the rest of us are hard wired.
Agree in principle with the rest of what you have posted. There is no scientific evidence for anything supernatural. However there is the subjective evidence of religious experience, the mystical states that can be experienced through meditation, prayer, chanting, etc. These can be replicated using psychedelics or the āGod helmetā which applies EM fields of specific frequencies to the brain. There has been quite a bit of research on the link between early religions and psychedelics, basically all the religious myths are based on acid trips. When you look at religious symbolism and art that makes a lot of sense.
Some of the most interesting research is into the shamanic cultures which are the oldest religions.
Where did I use science in my reply above? It is accepted and taught that the ressurection did not happen. It is accepted and taught that Jesus was not born on Christmas. It is accepted and taught that christianity is a rip off of one religion after another.
Your own church now teaches all this as it cannot deny it. Science plays no part in this. Lies are always exposed in the end. Always.
Science says nothing about God not can it. Science is a tool for measuring the physical world we find ourselves in. It cannot measure something when there is nothing to measure.
The Catholic Church teaches the resurrection did not happen? Is this a new thing? Surely thatās the basis of the whole religion.
