The Official TFK Farming Thread

There is an Irish family with a YouTube channel that turned 9ac and a house in Galway somewhere into 1300ac. They moved in 2006

Land price is based off of earning potential in France and you have to actively farm it to purchase. A green cert from here will allow you to so.

Farms are generally sold lock stock and barrel as owners retire. Very little in the way of keeping onto the land and cheque book until your death bed like you would see here.

Huge amounts of regulations around nitrates and sprays, not simple at all

Are farms not passed down like here

They can be and commonly are but many view farming as a career and will just sell up when they hit retirement age.

We’re very attached to the land in this country, understandable really.

They are not making anymore of it.

A farmer in North Kerry was telling me recently that it is some of the most expensive farm land in the country, based on no reason other than all the North Kerry farmers are Kerry Group millionaires.

Land trading for well over the price of much better land elsewhere

I think there is a massive tax relief on sale of the kerry shares that if proceeds reinvested into agri then no tax liability which just drove the land values even more demented

The poor fucker was so riddled with shame and guilt at selling his heirloom headache that he had to go and buy an even bigger headache somewhere where he doesn’t even speak the language…he could have moved to kerry

There’s an inheritance angle too I think.

I’ve told this story on here before but I know of a family where the son got the farm and the daughter got the shares. At the time the farm was by far the winner. Now she’s way better off and never had to farm either

Typical townie way of looking at the thing

That’s the kind of thing that could cause a severe split in the family.Kerry people are fairly hungry hoors

I’m a bit confused by the article. It says they’re from Drumkeeran but the farm was in Carrick which is about 20 miles away.Plus there’s no way a few acres around Carrick would buy you a farm in France.

We need more details on this,it’s like some puff piece Niamh Horan would write.

I’ll get onto my man in Drumkeeran
