The Official TFK Father's Issues Thread. I don't know how they do it

Iā€™m sure youā€™re an excellent father pal.

Dunno about that. Now that they have attitude I threaten to drown/ choke / murder them at least once a week.

What did I do now?

Nothing wrong with that, the greatest role model a father can have does the same on a weekly basis

@mickee321 donā€™t be confusing me when Iā€™ve pints on boardšŸ˜‚

My eldest lady starts the Leaving Cert this week whilst her sister sits the Junior Cert. Sheā€™s well-prepared but thereā€™s an inherent nervousness about her thatā€™s worrying me a bit. The younger one is as relaxed as could be.

I was up just before 7 this morning and came downstairs to find her immersed in study. She said sheā€™d been up since before 5.30. It canā€™t be good for you. I know the brain can be sharpest in the morning but thatā€™s dependent on a proper nightā€™s sleep, which she couldnā€™t have got. Normally, on a Saturday, youā€™d have to call in the Army No.1 Band to blast Reveille to get her out of the cot.

I made her a bit of breakfast and said come on, weā€™ll go for a walk. A beautiful, pastoral morning here in rural Limerick and it seemed to do the trick, save for the constant smell of liquid shite that a neighbouring farmer seems to have indiscriminately spread across the hinterland.

Pressure affects people differently, I suppose. Any parent will be ambitious that their child does well but itā€™s far, far from the be-all and end-all that the Leaving is made out to be. If she does well, great. If not, it shouldnā€™t define her any differently. It certainly wonā€™t in her parents eyes.

Great post

Great post and top parenting.

Ah now thatā€™s nice.
Make sure to tell her a few times a day that sheā€™ll be ok.

Hope your princesses and yourself come through this with flying colours, my eldest is 9 but it wonā€™t be long coming around, must be very difficult seeing them so wound up. Iā€™m sure you know that by half past ten on Wednesday sheā€™ll fall into that pattern that all leaving certs do and itā€™ll become normal life for a few weeks.

Had our first LC last year. And another JC this year.
Simply keep supporting and talking to them as you are doing and it will work out fine. They take a lot of strength from your support.

And @backinatracksuit is dead right about getting to Wednesday morning, it just flows by after that.

Best of luck.
