fwiw, the sister used get the elder one involved at feeding time and have her helping out some way so she didn’t feel left out. depends on how old your eldest is but if she’s involved in some of the routine stuff in some way she should be ok, and presents will normally help her as well obviously

th ones iv been told are the present & when she sees the baby first put all the focus on her until she gets interested in the new baby- although i think whatever happens her nose will be out of joint

She will be put out as she has been the centre of attention for as long as she knows.
As mac said above, getting her involved in the new babys routine is a good one.

The present helps. Get her involved definitely. You might think that spending more one to one quality time with number 1 will be good for her but in my experience that does not work.

The eldest daughter will probably be out with your missus more than anyone else mate(that’s what I have found anyway). You will become her idol for 2 reasons 1.) You will end up having more time for her than her mother will as she will have a new baby strapped to her hip most of the time. 2.) The elder daughter will show much more affection to you just to try and piss off her mother because of point 1.

Not really sure where to post this but here is as good of a place as any.

I was around with my brother yesterday helping him dig up and manky looking patio which is in his garden. My nephews and niece were there but also there was a neighbour’s kid there who is known to my nephew. Apparently this kid has Asperger’s Syndrome but struck me more as being more of a bold brat. He did the following:

  • turned on the hose on many occassions in the garden and sprayed water at people. This was following my brother telling him numerous times not to do it.
  • blocking the alley on purpose while I was wheeling bricks out from the back garden to a skip at the front.
  • being generally agressive and not letting other kids have turns with various games etc and being cheeky when pulled up on it.

It may not seem like much but the neck of him to do it when in a house which wasn’t his own was the worst thing.

He had been in my brother’s house since 10am until about 3pm and his parents never came looking for him. Also he regularly calls his mother an ‘asshole’ but she lets him away with it on the grounds that he has Asperger’s.
