A flying squad led by @Corksfinedtboy will wreak havoc on your left flank. Your vanguard will have been taken out by a rejuvenated @anon67715551 and your main force will be forced to hunker down in the malaria infested swanps that surround athlone. Youâll pray for enslavement, but no mercy will be shown.
Assuming youâre invading via the river Lake, itâd be insanity to do it from anything but the Roscommon side 
The key to Athlone is the bridge, the fastest route to the bridge is from the Roscommon side, invading from the Westmeath side would only give them time to blow it up on you.
Once you have the bridge you have them by the bollox
Also Seans bar is on the Roscommon side. Youâd want to take that early doors, it would crush their morale.
You could then foment rebellion amongst the Roscommoners against their Westmeath overlords

Lads like @backinatracksuit and @iron_mike think this is some sort of yachting excursion with a military expedition aspect. They probably think amphibious landing crafts were used in the dresden bombings because the Japanese ran out of bicycles.
