They did, it was very enjoyable.
I’m not saying that all hotels should be approved, but I think hotels suit city centre areas better than high rise housing units. I’d prefer to see housing in suburban areas that suit better for a more rounded development rather than cramping into the city centre. Ireland hates apartments for whatever reason and any sort of multi storey apartment development rarely gets approved due to multiple objections.
We keep saying we need people living in the city centre. I don’t see how you get that if all you build is hotels. And I do think there is quite a lot of substance to the argument from many people that cultural spaces are being developed and not replaced and we are losing an awful lot in that.

not disagreeing there either. But city centre residential can only work with increased height developments, and its not DCC who stop that, its every party out there and anyone already living within 2 miles of any proposal objecting and causing it to be completely unviable.

Manchester, a city over which Dublin has every conceivable advantage, will have the most high rise developments of any city in Europe in the foreseeable future.
Dublin needs dragging out of the dark ages. Tall buildings can be absolutely beautiful. I’d take 100 stories over some nondescript 8 story square block any day of the week. Irish Architecture is utterly shameful pretty much across the board.
