The Official TFK Nimby thread

Another victory for us, but have we won the war?

@Little_Lord_Fauntleroy have you brought your man to heel yet? People want active travel but not in their back yard

Thats the fear alright

Encouraging stats though

Very encouraging. If the SCR in Limerick goes ahead will be a big win for active travel. Limerick will be the leader in active travel in ireland

There was a lady in the comments on some twitter post who was pro-active travel, but much cleverer in the way she got her points across than the likes of you. Her tactics would be a far better way of getting people on board rather than trying to brow beat every cager and treat them like a criminal.

Limerick has always been a leader in active travel. If you look around the city centre everyone is wearing a tracksuit.

She tied one irate cager up in knots by explaining to him that she didn’t want him to give up his car if did indeed need it for his commute, but pointed that surely he should be happy if there’s more incentive for people to use active travel as it would mean less traffic on the road for him.

Councillors block future housing beside park

OLIVIA KELLY Dublin Editor

One of the most contentious landbanks in Dublin has been blocked from use for housing under the new Dublin City Development Plan.Councillors last night voted to prevent future housing schemes on privately-owned lands beside St Anne’s Park in Raheny, by zoning the plot for open space.

The 16.5-acre site to the east of St Paul’s College at Sybil Hill, has been the subject of multiple housing applications and court actions since it was bought by developer Pat Crean’s Marlet Property Group in 2015.

The High Court last year overturned the latest permission granted by An Bord Pleanala for a Strategic Housing Development (SHD) of 657 apartments on the site.

In recent months Marlet applied to Dublin City Council under the new large-scale residential development system for 580 apartments and a 100-bed nursing home on the site.

The city council last week refused permission for the scheme due to concerns about the light-bellied Brent goose, which migrate from Canada for the winter months. The council had received more than 230 objections to Marlet’s plans.

While the company can appeal the council’s decision to An Bord Pleanála, from next month it will not be in a position to submit new applications for residential schemes on the site, under the new city development plan.

Marlet had made submissions on the plan urging the council not to “sterilise” the land by implementing the open space zoning on the basis the site “no longer forms part of the institutional lands associated with the adjacent school” and was ideally located for housing.

However, councillors voted to zone Mr Crean’s land as Z9 open space in the plan which comes into force in mid-December.

Councillors said the site, former playing pitches, which had been part of the school grounds before their sale to Mr Crean, were in an area “bereft of sports grounds”. They also noted the use of the lands by the geese.

The decision leaves Mr Crean with the option of submitting a fresh application to the council within weeks, or await the results of any appeal to the board on its recently rejected plans.”

St Anne’s park is an area bereft of sports grounds :man_shrugging:t5::man_shrugging:t5:

Thats mental. The site is small compared to st annes and is right up the very top. Youd barely even notice it. 500 houses in the middle of a housing crisis, in an area with savage transport links.
Geese ffs. The geese never stopped in st annes or in the massive bird sanctuary of bull island ? Joke shop

in fairness @Little_Lord_Fauntleroy, what’s more important here? A private estate garden for the social elite? Or creating living spaces for over 1,000 people? The famed Irish Georgian Society wouldnt be doing its job if it allowed riff raff and commoners take their prestigious private garden.

Fucking Georgians

What have the Georgians ever done for us?

Do the IGS want people back living in tenements?
