The Official TFK Questionable Sporting Rules Thread

  1. When is the sliothar struck in the process of taking a free in hurling.
  2. How far forward can you lift/strike the sliothar before you hit it in the general direction of the goal in hurling.
  3. When can a goalkeeper leave his line when a 21-yard free/penalty is being taken in hurling.
  4. When can an association football player return to the field after receiving treatment for an injury.
  5. When can a hurling goalkeeper use the larger hurl outside of their own small square.

Does Rockos understanding of the offside and away goals rule count as questionable rules?

Are you questioning them?

If so then probably.

@Rocko is the foremost authority on the offside rule

Not so much questionable, as completely ignored. The “Foul Throw” in Association Football.

The hurling handpass is another one which is now being completely ignored.

Charging with the ball in hurling, steps in hurling. It appears that Tipp’s Bonner Maher has based his entire game around breaking these two rules, for which he gets great praise and admiration.

*Barging you mean…

Not being ignored at all. Players from traditional hurling strongholds have developed a technique that is so fast that it is no longer perceivable to the human eye. Perhaps a form of hawk eye could be used for questionable calls going forward.

The football handpass requiring “a definite underhand striking action”. I definitely saw Bernard Brogan making an overhand (or at least side on) striking action with a handpass on Sunday and get away with it.

No questionable as in unclear, not unenforced.

How would they hone the wrist actions to perfect this technique?

Haven’t seen much issue with the pick up lately tbh.

Nothing jumps to mind.

Shockingly.

That’s because you have the rule wrong. There is no longer a mention of “underhand” in the rule. All the rule states is that there must be a definite striking action.

One rule (or absence of a rule) I never liked in association football is where a defender is shepherding a ball out of play for a throw in or a goal kick after a member of the opposing team has had the last touch. You’ll often seen a player use their arse in a fashion like @LetterkennyMan to keep the opposing player away from the ball, however, they won’t touch the ball themselves or make any effort to do so. To me the defender isn’t playing the ball there and is purely obstructing the opposing player.
