Enough of the cricket terminology. Answer is Vin Baston of Waterford. Refereed the 1945 or 46 final prior to playing in the final of 1948.

Peter McDermott did it the other way around - played then reffed.

Iā€™d only really have interest in Division 4 to be honest. Real football.

Tipp won Div 3. Beat Louth in the final.

McDermott played on both sides of his refereeing, he won medals in 1949 and 1954

Thatā€™s a definitive no.

How did it go?

They crushed us, utterly and completely. Didnā€™t even come close. We had a good start in the GAA & Irish history/geography but completely flopped in the second half when it came to current affairs.

Monaleen only got 5 wrong in the entire quiz. Their 19th county title in a row. Just blew everyone away.

Your lot had two teams, one came 2nd after a tiebreaker, beat South Liberties. A respectable enough score but still never got near them.

Train harder for next year

Well thatā€™s it, if someone wants to beat them, you would have to train. At an absolute minimum, you would need to know every trophy name, sponsor and winner of every competition at every major grade in Hurling, Football, Camogie, Ladies Football.

Head of every public body, trade union, all ministers, including junior, guards, central bank, financial regulator, etc

A very good knowledge of Irish history, particularly 1912-1921. And even then, you still might not win.

But training for a quiz sucks all the fun out.

Were you the young fella on the KP team I had my eye out for youšŸ™ˆ
I was a late call up for ours.
That Monaleen team is unreal 5 questions wrong. Some of them were alive for most of the history questions Iā€™d say

Aye, twas me alright. Ye ended up beating us in the end, which was disappointing!

Theyā€™re a serious outfit, top team in the country too.

A lot of the ones we missed were getable but there was a good ten I wouldnā€™t have got if I was there for a month.
Highest peak in the Andies?
Who was President of the GAA when the ban was lifted?
Name Sebastian Barryā€™s award winning book (Iā€™ve no idea if he has written more than one but this is how the question was asked)?
Name the townland where the Field takes place?
What IRA general was released as part of the truce in 1921?

Once it became clear we werenā€™t getting within an asses roar of winning, we were happy enough to beat ye in the end.

We got 1 of those- The Field townland.

I knew the Andes peak when I heard it but that was fuck all use to us.
