Commonwealth games start in Birmingham today. There’s been a nice buzz building the last few days since the athletes started arriving. We played in the “dress rehearsal” for the hockey stadium yesterday which was great. We were Ghana so standing for the Ghana national anthem was something I never thought I’d say!

It’s been an enjoyable few days. The weather has been something else. I’ve been at the hockey the last couple of days as it’s only down the road. Spotted a lad in a Limerick jersey today and someone in an old battered Mayo hat. There’s been a few Irish floating around. Good atmosphere and at that level it is ridiculously quick.
There’s been a feel good story to the week too. The Ghana ladies side were on the verge of pulling out yesterday due to beatings they’ve got and not enjoying their experience. Their men’s side were told by the coach (he’s coaching both sides) so they turned up to the game yesterday in full voice and a speaker blaring traditional Ghanaian music mixed with dance. They got the whole crowd going and drove on the women who managed to score their first goal of the tournament.

My name came up in the ballot for tickets for the Paris Olympics. Slim picking left in this round. In Paris all that’s left is weightlifting, volleyball and wrestling. A few seats left for the Athletics in St Denis. 240 notes for a two hour session of heats. 690notes for an athletics final’s session. The marquee ones are gone at this stage. I passed on the opportunity.
They could do an obstacle race on a pretend horse. Award points then like a dressage as well.
The weightlifting is absolutely compelling. Trust me. It’s brilliant to watch.

Twas 175 at London 2012.
Mrs Mac got drawn out in one of the earlier ones and we’ve got 2 Athletics sessions. Had to buy a rugby 7s and a soccer one to complete the pack. Neither of which we’ll be able to attend. It’s some system they have. And the prices are ridiculous
What would the chances be of picking up a gymnastics ticket for about 100 quid or less?
We got top level tickets for the olympics track and field in beijing. Got 100m finals of mens and womens. Was sitting about 10metres from the start line for mens 100s. That was cheap as chips and a fabulous experience. Still was more impressed by the speed of the lads running middle and long distances. Unbelievable the speed they go at and how long they can keep that pace. And how they still have the energy to sprint proper at the end.

Slim I’d say. No gymnastics tickets left in this round unless you are interested in “trampoline gymnastics”. Another round of ticket in May.
It’s a racket but this build a ticket package thing is some way to flog tickets for shit events.

Got my single ticket time slot there for the Paris Olympics. Opening ceremony €2700 a skull, closing ceremony €1100. Athletics €690 for a two hour session. Loads of cheap tickets for shit events. Good night and good luck.
