I watched the first three matches at home.

I recall running out of the house around the yard and the outhouses when Robbie scored against Germany. Stuff going through your head like ‘we just have to beat the Saudis and we’re more or less through, Germany beat them 8-0 so they must be shit’.

I watched the Spain match in a now closed pub in Mohill. To this day I never experienced anything like it in terms of emotions.

The Spain game was the same day that Kerry beat Cork. Darragh, Tomas and Marc buried their father that morning. I can’t remember if they played but I think Cork were unwilling to put the fixture back.

Donegal and Derry was on as well I think.

I found it an anticlimax after the penalty shoot out in Italia 90. I remember dancing around the front lawn celebrating and a troop of scouts that were camping in the sand dunes, and had been watching the game in the Fort Conan Hotel, marched down the road singing ‘We’re all part of Jackie’s Army’.

Cork shit the bed again and the narrowly beat Munster finalists fell over the line against the 4th best team in Leinster.

Limerick are very good, that’s undeniable, the rest of them are very average
