Channel 4s daily review show is called the last leg.
China win yet the system gave Brazil the win and a WR cos the 2nd leg swimmer stayed in the pool leaning against the finish pad
John and his co-commentator were very confused at the time. It was brilliant television.
A friend of mine from University won a rowing Gold last week for GB. Won by around 10 seconds. The man is an absolute inspiration. He’s had so thrown at him yet just got on with it. Had cancer when he was a first year in Uni, nearly lost his eyesight after being hit in the head by a hockey ball. He got fast tacked to Triathlon after attending one of these Talent ID sessions post London 2012. Was flying it then had a crash in an event which left him paralysed. Throughout all this he qualified as a solicitor. And a gentleman to top it all off.
Assuming the fact that he can’t refix the goggles on his head is part of the reason. Would need someone to put them on for him and get the fitting absolutely perfect. Maybe over time he just got fucked off with needing other people to tweak them so went without them. John Kenny was in awe of him a couple of weeks back. Said he was like a motorboard
Was at an evening swimming session, morning and evening sessions of the para athletics, had a brilliant time there.
Great atmosphere in the La Defense arena, some venue for it, Brits, Brazilians, Italians and Chinese swimmers put up some mighty performances. Nice to see 2 Ukrainian medallists in same event not give a fuck about the NPA swimmer from you know where and blank him all through the medal presentation (similar story with most others when they were on the podium with one of em).
Saw Orla Comerford win her heat in the morning and decided to go back that evening for her final, even though she got bronze, something special about seeing our flag being raised just below us in the Stade. Tickets were great value at only 15e each, very good viewing. Overall we had a special few days over there, well done to all concerned who represented our great country.
