The Patriot game or Sean South from Garryowen

Sean South despite its glaring historical inaccuracies is a good owl tune but for me The Patriot Game by Behan is the superior ballad. Both recall the same botched raid during the border campaign
What’s the considered opinion of the resident members of the Ra and assorted spoofers on the matter? Speaking of which, of the pair what has the most resonance amongst the Scottish on the Celtic terraces?

Sean South for me all day, every day

Patriot Game for me.

Sean South is catchier but there’s much more meaning and a stronger message to Patriot Game.

I’d also prefer Roddy McCorley to Sean South.

Patriot Game for a sing along, Sean Sabhat when heading to war- particularly in Mordor.

When he stepped up the narrow street
Smiling proud and young

On the hemp rope, around his neck
The golden ringlets hung

Sean South, yet another Limerick bottle job

Sean South from 49 Henry Street (the subway is there now!)

Never set foot in Garryowen they reckon. Some war song though!

Luke with the German translation. Magic.

There was never a tear in his blue eyes
But sad and bright were they

I don’t recall any Claremen contributing very much.

Who do you think played the music? Have some respect for our brave Clare fiddlers.

@Tank

Finally a version without the kraut
