Iseult O’Malley, current Supreme Court judge is a cousin of Cahir. Her mother, the writer Una O’Higgins O’Malley was the youngest of Kevin O’Higgins children, only a few weeks old when he was assassinated. Judge Iseult’s father Eoin O’Malley was the foremost cardiologist in the country in his pomp.

I think the nearest anyone has come to writing about this is a fella called John M Regan who wrote a book called the Irish Counter Revolution around 1998.

There must be books written about ‘the Irish middle class’. It must be all traced back to whether you owned a farm or worked on a farm.
Like if you took a random ‘working class’ fella today and went back there would be a fair chance his family never owned their own farm. If you took a random ‘middle class’ fella theres a fair chance they did. Going way back. Think McWilliams had a theory on it.

I’m not sure that is fully true. I think the free secondary education of the 60s then the university grants etc had a transformative effect on families and lifted entire generations up into professional jobs and the middle classes.
