Iseult OâMalley, current Supreme Court judge is a cousin of Cahir. Her mother, the writer Una OâHiggins OâMalley was the youngest of Kevin OâHiggins children, only a few weeks old when he was assassinated. Judge Iseultâs father Eoin OâMalley was the foremost cardiologist in the country in his pomp.
Wonderful. Any idea on what secondary schools they attended?
And how many points they got in the Leaving Cert
Jesuit educated, Iâd imagine.
Any of them in Kilkenny? Trying to place someone
They took over the revolutionaries of 1916 and ensured independence became a simple transfer of power and they set about building their dynasties and having their place in the sun.
Has anyone mapped or written in this topic?
I think the nearest anyone has come to writing about this is a fella called John M Regan who wrote a book called the Irish Counter Revolution around 1998.
Why do you think a lot people have such a keen interest with legal eagles and hold them in such high esteem when it could be argued it can be a very dirty business?
A fascinating topic. There was a small cohort of families who must have had nothing around 1900 who became very well off within a generation.
A form of carpetbagging
There must be books written about âthe Irish middle classâ. It must be all traced back to whether you owned a farm or worked on a farm.
Like if you took a random âworking classâ fella today and went back there would be a fair chance his family never owned their own farm. If you took a random âmiddle classâ fella theres a fair chance they did. Going way back. Think McWilliams had a theory on it.
You mean people who worked hard every day for generations v people who didnât?
Marys IIRC
You are saying someone who works in a factory doesnât work hard?
Iâm not sure that is fully true. I think the free secondary education of the 60s then the university grants etc had a transformative effect on families and lifted entire generations up into professional jobs and the middle classes.
Yeah, all fatmers were quislings
Bro?
Bashar Al-Assad
I wouldnât think so. The Russians will just level Aleppo.
