Your man actually slipped for the penalty, nonetheless the optics were bad and gave the referee a decision to make. Wasn’t a penalty, but wasn’t not a penalty either.
I don’t know where you start with that. It was incredibly bad. It’s essentially a man-to-man 3421 battle & they’ve absolutely destroyed Celtic. They’ve pushed their wide centre backs right up onto the Celtic attacking mids & set traps for Celtic. See if you can. play out & through this man to man set up but Celtic have been totally ran over. Outmuscled, outsmarted, outplayed. It’s been totally demoralising & a real chastening experience. I get that it’s the system Gasperini has perfected across many clubs versus Nancy who’s been in situ for a week & trying to coach it on the fly…but Celtic players are all over the place. The uncertainty & lack of cohesion is startling.
The authority which they’re attacking our balls forward versus our standoff approach is striking. We look like we’re always standing still in both ends of the field and we look exhausted from doing so.
There will be more talk about the formation and I guess that’s understandable/justifiable. But more than anything there’s a real dearth of ability in the squad. We have too many players who can’t control the ball, can’t tackle and can’t hold off challenges. Players who are neither technically capable nor athletic. It’s a diabolical squad.
It’s the same squad Martin O’Neill had pissing all over Feyenoord in Rotterdam two weeks ago.
It’s mostly the same squad which were 45 seconds from taking Bayern Munich to extra-time in the knockout stages of the Champions League.
This Nancy fella is clearly one of these fellas who thinks football is a lab experiment and pays no heed to the on the ground reality of the sociological context and expectations of Celtic Football Club.
I know, I know. Engels is meant to be the athletic, powerful box to box type. The likes of Nygren & Tounekti are weak physically & seemingly mentally too. They’re literally getting run over. And the spaces they have to play in are alarming. It’s absolutely clueless. Great second touch & finish by Ferguson & took the first one nicely too. But they’re being allowed to advance into the Celtic box untouched.
Treble sub now. Donovan, Bernardo & Iheanacho for Tierney, Nygren & Maeda.
Rodgers, whatever you think of him, preached a couple of things - 1) you need pace & power to compete at European level & 2) each team has a cycle & needs to be refreshed or it will become stale. I think last season’s side had reached its end point & there were Ange signings like Hatate for example that looked to have reached a natural end point at Celtic. Then you take the killer pace of Kuhn out of the side & replace him with literally nobody on the right. And a few key injuries such as Alistair Johnston who has that athleticism on the overlap & even CCV’s strength at the back despite possibly being one for the time to move on category. But it’s a team lacking in several departments & they had a chance to build on last season’s CL performance & pissed it away.
“The rat” is gone pal.Rejoice as Celtic will be back in champs lge where they belong and can compete as opposed this level that’s clearly beneath them.
Any shrewd posters here noted that it was a ludicrous decision. Leave Murt O’ Neill in situ till the end of the season. If Rangers could get to a final when there were still Champions League teams dropping down then Celtic could surely have a crack off it too. Great to see Ferguson in and amongst the goals though. You’d hope it’s not a false dawn, goals don’t really flow in Serie A.
The optics of these easy forward presses for Roma and then Celtic trying and failing to escape with a scuffed pass to a wing back who hasn’t a hope or a scuffed pass into touch, christ they’re awful.
St. Mirren must be laughing. Celtic WILL turn up with the same formation and game plan again on Sunday and it’ll turn to shit again and this time they won’t have the excuse of playing a team which has been leading their league this season.
