It’s an imponderable. But it certainly seems to have value
That was the classic generic Sevilla Europa League final win. There’s a niche there for other sporting teams or individuals to do a Sevilla by making a secondary competition their own.
Maybe one of the also ran French teams, Oyonnax or Bayonne or Agen or somebody, could make continually winning the Heino Challenge Cup their “brand”. Dismiss the Heino in order to get into the secondary competition.
Sevilla targetting the Europa League is like a golfer around the 20-30 ranking bracket targetting the US PGA each year and winning it six years in a row, but missing the cut in all the proper majors. Or a cyclist targetting the Vuelta A Espana and winning that each year but not even participating in the Tour De France.
Or a clay court tennis player winning six French Opens in a row but getting thrashed in the first round at Wimbledon every year.
The Europa League is the clay court tennis season of football and Sevilla are the clay court specialists.
A classic of this genre would have been Carlow IT under DJ Carey who won the Fitzgibbon League around 5 years in a row between 2014-2018 but never bothered with the Fitzgibbon Cup itself really.
Thought they reached the final of Fitzgibbon cup a few times ?
Once maybe?
2014 - WIT v CIT
2015 - UL v WIT
2016 - Mary I v UL
2017 - Mary I v Carlow
2018 - UL v DCU
2019 - UCC v Mary I
Since the late 90s I’d say there’s been very few finals between the big universities, there’s usually an IT on final that offers a rake of a scholarships
Quevega racking up Mares Hurdles at Cheltenham instead of testing herself in the Champion Hurdle would be another real life example of the Sevilla approach in action.
Sevilla are a TG4 team.
Well said Jose.
Bald English cheat.
Jose is a great man
Fair play to Jose, another manager could have come across petty and classless there. He really retained his dignity.
Do you want Jose to stay on?
There’s no money there. He’s done a decent job truth be told. Good few injury problems this season and lots of young players have been given gametime under him.
I doubt we will get many better right now given the financial constraints.
I thought the penalty wasn’t given for a finish anyhow?
Rome is the mob.
Still finding it hard to get my head around the penalty decisions
Well merited.
He’s as hated in Italy as Byron Moreno. Cheats get what they deserve. Anthony Taylor is a cheat.
