The Public Transport Plan Announcement Thread

Between Metrolink and DART :dart: North should facilitate a lot of development in North Dublin, which has twice the land bank of South Dublin.

The south Dubliners will be delighted.

You can hardly drive a nail into a wall in Ranelagh but you’d have the objectors out.

Bit of an issue with the geography in south Dublin tbf as it gets to the mountains fairly quickly. If the South West is ever to get a Metro or even Luas they need to think about getting rid of some of those golf courses.

Be careful where you build

Areas on Dublin’s northside among most at-risk from ‘extreme coastal events’ – The Irish Times.

I was up in Donabate/Portrane recently for a match & I was taken aback by the scale of the housing/apartment developments completed &/or ongoing. Seemed to be loads of space for more too. I’d usually have gone no further than Newbridge House but was down in the heart of it this time. I was thinking it could be a nice place to live if the accompanying bits follow (schools, shops, other services like GPs etc etc) as you have the aforementioned Newbridge House for nature/walks/parkrun, the coastal/beach/fresh air angle so it’s just a case really of making sure it doesn’t become a concrete jungle with no amenities in the centre. If they can have a few nice playgrounds, a central shopping area where you can get an açai bowl before getting a teeth cleaning or picking up some dry cleaning then it’ll be a grand spot & close to the city.

With the new greenway and an electric bike, you would be in a car free new st in and enjoying a pint in gibneys in 10 mins

Huzzah

Edit, turvey woods is better than newbridge

There i said it

The field across from Newbridge house could house a small sized town I reckon. It is some size.

Donabate is closer to the city centre than Bray. Developing it is a no brainer.

Would need to be very extreme to impact Lissenhall.

I’d be surprised if they didn’t ultimately connect Metrolink to Donabate and the DART/Northern Line trains as well. Would be very well connected then.

That’s the problem, Fingal CoCo have approved plenty of housing and opened up the land around Donabate with a new road but they don’t appear to have planned extra facilities to go with the new homes.

McCarthy is a bit of an idiot. He was against the Luas too.

Imagine a small private bus service in Waterford can go contactless and Dublin Bus can’t.
