Bit of an issue with the geography in south Dublin tbf as it gets to the mountains fairly quickly. If the South West is ever to get a Metro or even Luas they need to think about getting rid of some of those golf courses.
I was up in Donabate/Portrane recently for a match & I was taken aback by the scale of the housing/apartment developments completed &/or ongoing. Seemed to be loads of space for more too. I’d usually have gone no further than Newbridge House but was down in the heart of it this time. I was thinking it could be a nice place to live if the accompanying bits follow (schools, shops, other services like GPs etc etc) as you have the aforementioned Newbridge House for nature/walks/parkrun, the coastal/beach/fresh air angle so it’s just a case really of making sure it doesn’t become a concrete jungle with no amenities in the centre. If they can have a few nice playgrounds, a central shopping area where you can get an açai bowl before getting a teeth cleaning or picking up some dry cleaning then it’ll be a grand spot & close to the city.
That’s the problem, Fingal CoCo have approved plenty of housing and opened up the land around Donabate with a new road but they don’t appear to have planned extra facilities to go with the new homes.
