The Rugby Thread (Part 1)
I theory the Wallace, Jennings, Heaslip back row sounds good bt I couldn’t see it working…Wallace is a good ball carrying 7 or 8 but not a 6…Heaslip is an out and out 8 while Jennings is an openside and it has been shown countless time by countless teams that you can get away with two sixs in your back row but two sevens doesn’t work…

so all in all it is probably the right call as Wallace and Heaslip(dispite last weeks performance) have been the form back row players this season and it would have been hard to drop either…
Fair post Puke. I’m disappointed Shane Jennings hasn’t got a start but I can’t argue with Wallace retaining his place. Is there any possibility somewhere down the line of Wallace playing 8 to allow Jennings come in at 7?

That team looks average to me, at best.

Felipe is out for the Argies I think…still they must be worth a bet @ 7/5…they have beaten us 3 times-in-a-row.

If Ireland lose then they get seeded 9th in the World Cup draw so I’l be roaring on the Pumas anyways. G’wann the beef-eaters.

that is what i would have liked to hav seen myself bandage as i thought Heaslip was fairly poor last weekend but realistically for jennings to get his start(which he is overdue) either Wallace or Heaslip will have to be omitted from the team

Problem again is that Wallace isn’t a perfect 8 and it’s quite specialist. He’s fine for picking up from the base of an attacking scrum but defensively and in terms of covering around the place he doesn’t fit the bill.

Heaslip, Ferris and Jennings would be the most balanced back row in terms of fitting guys into positions but that completely ignores the fact that Wallace is currently the best of the bunch. So one of them has to lose out and Jennings is most disposable because you don’t want to sacrifice on bulk, especially against Argentina.

so what are the predictions?..Ireland would be expected to win it i assume?..

Don’t think we are expected to win…and like most games against the argies it will be tough and tight…If we are to beat them then the intensity has to increase from last week and whatever about us trying to keep 8th spot the argies have their eye on 4th spot in the ranking, makinhg them a top seed for the world cup…

well you’re a gambling man pukey and 4/7 for Ireland to win isn’t exactly a working man’s price…

I know that but I wouldn’t touch Ireland at that…4/5 would be a a fairer price IMHO…

Ireland are a good price at 4/7 imo, Argentina do what Ireland should do and peak for the World Cup years

Agreed with that Clareman. We should win. Any sort of increase in intensity from last week and they’re easily beatable.

No tt its your version of the facts which are far removed from the truth

Surprised your getting involved in the discussion around this friendly?! :stuck_out_tongue:

Wallace has been the best back row in Ireland this season, he was always going to start.

This is the back row I felt should have played last weekend so no complaints.

Wallace would be comfortable at 8 and has played there a bit for Munster, played there against Sale. But Heaslip is a far far better player than Jennings so I thinm he should be accomodated.

I thought Jennings was good enough but its hard for leinster fans to argue for him to play 7 when your coach didnt think he was even the best irish qualified 7 at leinster last season. id say he played a fair bit at 6 at times for Leiscter as well. From what Iv seen of Jennings this season Im not as convinced he is international class as I was before. Lacking a little something.

its a good complaint to have but I think that is a good back row as he could have picked. Id have started Ferris anyway even if Quinlan was fit.

The Runt I believe lived with a mad aul bunch of Munster Fans in college there in Castletroy so perhaps he will confirm what I’v said.

fair enough Evo

SO we still have the Ulster quote, good to see. Fair enough team, surprised to see POC start.

Serious haterd between Irl and Arg, no love lost at best, out and out hatred between other players. This game will b a battle, Ireland better be up for it or it’ll be last Saturday all over again.

Happy to see Geordan get the nod, hope the slate is clean for him and that he proves himself. Still have my doubts about certain aspects of his game, but his sheer talent demands he get another change.

Well I played and know plenty lads from limerick and to say that they would cheer against ireland to spite Leinster players is codswallop

poor enough fare so far here. rog is not having fun.

Good God that’s some shite match.

Both teams playing badly. Irish pack doing reasonably but the backline are woeful. They’ve a nothing backline really without their three star backs of recent times in Pichot, Hernandez and Contepomi and then guys like Corleto not playing either.

We should destroy that team in the back line but we’ve just gone through the motions of running training ground moves.

Awful tripe. Really stupid tackle from O’ Gara. Is it the way Croke Park looks for Rugby or are the kickers going for far less distance, O’ Gara especially, or is it a lack of confidence.

The pack are doing well. It is shite, but i see signs of Ireland heading in the right direction. The backs are good players and i think they will improve in time.

I believe this is a game for Paul Warick, awful pity we can’t get him declared. He is a different type of out-half.

International rugby is pretty crap in general these days all in all. Garryowen after garryowen.
