The Rugby Thread (Part 1)

Wales are inconsistent at international level. Last three games between ireland Wales has been a win a piece and a draw. Not sure how anybody can think Wales out perform ireland. I think in the last ten years ireland have won four six nations and Wales have four too.

They win more grand slams? Been in World Cup 1/4 final?

Yep

Don’t really think having more grand slams means anything. Its a token gesture. They beat us in a world cup q/f in 2011 which is fair enough but @glasagusban saying Wales outdo us at international level is complete and utter Bolox. We’re extremely well matched at international level and if anything ireland have been more consistent year in year out.

:joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:

Ireland also have the following records against the Southern Hemisphere in the last 10 years;

Vs NZ

Ireland
W2 L7

Wales
L10

Vs Aus

Ireland
W5 D1 L3

Wales
W1 L13

Vs SA

Ireland
W4 L4

Wales
W5 L7

Wales have also been largely non existent vs NZ, where as Ireland have lost 3 of their fixtures to NZ very narrowly.

Ireland also includes a summer test series win overseas and another narrow loss, something Wales have not got.

If we go back to 2009, Wales narrowly beat Ireland (by one win) in the Six Nations overall. Wales also have one head to head victory more than Ireland.

You can make an argument that one more Grand Slam in that time plus a World Cup semi final is a better performance for silverwhere and prestige. Against that you could argue that Ireland have had a far more consistent rankings position, wins against higher caliber opposition and win ratio than Wales. On a consistency basis I’m really not sure you can make that argument.

On an overall professional rugby basis, I don’t see how on earth you can make that argument with a straight face. The performance of the regions vs the provinces are a disgrace. The Welsh regions are on the verge of rationalization.

Well it’s a simple fact. Wales have not been much better in the Six Nations in the last decade. Last year they lost 2 games, like Ireland this year. The year before it was 3 games. They didn’t win a title there for 6 years. It’s not like they are there year in and year out.

Ireland have had similar poor tournaments no question, but have been more consistent across the international game in the last decade.

That doesn’t equal consistent, like you claimed.

For clarity, to which “tournament” are you referring?

Did they not teach you how to read in the Dunstitute?

Tim is livid here :joy: :joy: :joy:

I just speak the facts.

Some of them

“Consistency” means fuck all at international level. It’s about winning when it counts and Wales under Gatty have a proven history of being much better at that than Ireland.

What am I missing here?

I’ve acknowledged the Welsh success

Gatty is undefeated in the highest stage of all .
