Yep and it’s probably critical we get the 9 and 12 positions sorted this year so if a young player is starting at ten in the autumn he’ll have in form players around him.
Just seems strange to have a lad like Burns in there who is clearly never going to do anything worthwhile at international level. I agree with you that the ‘fire in the belly’ that was a big factor for Ireland is gone, there will be a few reasons for that but having so many mercenaries in the squad surely doesn’t help. If for that reason alone Madigan is worth having ahead of Burns, his tears after leading Ireland in the win against France in 2015 is probably Irelands rugby world cup highlight from the past 20 years.

Great place kicker, his kicking out of hand and game management are probably what held him back.
He is supposed to have earned as well as any Irish player during his prime. Very good player.
Eddie O Sullivan could have knocked a tune out of them, he’s learned a lot since his last time in the role.
