The Rugby Thread (Part 1)

Serious talent and big boy too. Has it all but not sure Farrell is going to take a punt the province don’t seem willing to

Agree, Beirne found the going hard but I’d say he was giving up 3plus stone. He should be an auxiliary line out option from the backroom rather than the option.

They are kind of wed to POM and others with the money they are paying them.

The Swindon yesterday said there’s a contract on the table for sexton to sign and JJ is being offered 180k p/a to resign. Grand for munster, but he probably isn’t going to deliver them a European Cup and will never again play for Ireland. Surely they should send Ross Byrne to Ulster or Munster, let JJ go to France and let Crawley, HB and Sexton fight it out in Leinster.

I don’t think so. Personally, an extra couple feet of space to work in suits ringrose. My biggest dear when he came on the scene is they would try bulk him up too much. He’s wirey by nature and his running style is odd/tricky too as he accelerates while in a low position and can be elusive.

Think him at 13 is right spot. It’s getting a 10 to make the most of him is the problem. You can even see the frustrations coming from ringrose in two games forcing a pass that’s not on. Gets good attacking ball and an outhalf/management committing to attacking play, we’ll see the best of him still at 13

I wouldn’t be surprised if he started for the Lions, seems to be very highly thought off.

Re-sign or resign?!

Re-sign, its a good deal for him. Id imagine he stays.

Hawkshaw is another 10 who shouldn’t be forgotten either. JJ has had enough put into him, time investment in the development in others is put in

Id be paying him to leave. Incredulous if he is given another full contract. Both parties tried their best, he’s not of grade, thanks and we move on

Watched a bit of Premiership rugby the last few weeks and he would do a grand job for one of them.

I know fuck all about it but henshaw makes more eye catching breaks and big plays than ringrose regularly and plays best at 13. They are the two best centres but I don’t think 12 gets the best out of henshaw.

You’ve three or four young outhalves at leinster and Munster with international potential getting fuck all game time and above in Ulster they recruit burns and madigan. Isn’t it supposed to Nucifora’s job to have an eye to succession planning? That’s an obviously stupid situation to allow develop.

Ireland’s lineout and scrum were very good yesterday and a huge improvement on the Autumn. We’re in a bit of no man’s land with Sexton and Murray. Their better days are behind them but I’m not sure we’ve anything there to replace them with presently. But the Hens and Ringers partnership has the potential to mask over our half failings and allow for a more expansive game through the hands.
We’re very good at minding the ball but we’ve no game breakers at all. I think we had the ball for 15 phases at one stage mid second half and made about 3 yards. On the last passage of play we had similar phases but were losing yards. It’s the play around 3/4s that’s badly letting us down at the minute.

You have to embrace the local culture if you want to be taken seriously.

I got my education watching the Cookies and Shannon in the 90s.

That doesn’t seem that surprising. Cullen’s duty is to Leinster not Connacht. Handing over players with potential easy enough simultaneously damages his squad and improves that of one of his opponents. I don’t remember Connacht being too accommodating or happy when Henshaw went the other way

Would facilitating loans of players who are not getting game time out to other teams not improve their development and strengthen his hand on their return? Like, if they can’t even get a game at leinster they’re not going to improve Connacht to the level that they’re a threat are they?

Anyway if that’s not his outlook maybe it should be taken out of his hands.

If he knew he was getting them back maybe buts that not the way it works at the moment.

I’d say if Craig Casey was pushed on from Munster to Connacht for example then Munster fans wouldn’t be quite as convinced of the “spread em around” policy and certainly Johann Van Graan would be putting every roadblock possible in front of it.
