The Rugby Thread (Part 1)

Director in Joe.ie, you can’t make allowances for that.

Fair

I know some of the admin. They are absolutely fucked from tge amount of time they have to spend in Limerick

Hilarious. A sport with a massive discipline issue and a tidal wave of concussion lecturing one of the safest and best run sports in the world. You’d have to give rugby one thing. They don’t lack self regard.

Rugby doesn’t have a massive discipline issue far from it. If it had then you would see a tidal wave of concessions.

It has a massive discipline issue and young fellas are being carted off punch drunk in every game. Have you forgotten the hullabaloo after the NZ game. You’d think a leading rugby referee might be more concerned about actual injury in his own sport than feigned injury in another sport.

Bizarre. Absolute madness running a team like that.

Iv made no comment about Owen whatsoever. Or soccer.

Picking the odd high profile game here and there as an indication of any sport having a discipline problem is a poor argument as I’m sure you well know.

Yeah it really was. Couldn’t think of any parallel really. Even in Cork for GAA they trained together all year round when it would have been very awkward for some players due to size of county

Don’t the academy lads spend two days a week in Cork?

I mentioned that elsewhere that they haven’t fully centralised the academy. Caused issues for few players who were in middle of college course.

One v high profile young fella (Micheal Kiernan) son refused his place in the academy as he didn’t want to be forced into anything. He is so good will probably come through anyways but most lads will just end up in UL

Nigel Owen has a bee in his bonnet about soccer. He often makes remarks on the field like “what do you think this is, soccer” And then all the clickbait sites go mental with stuff like " See what top rugby referee said to burly Welsh second row about soccer".

The referees can’t referee rugby. We are continually told that some countries get away with murder while others don’t. Is this not a disciplinary problem. An Irish fellow had his brain turned to mush two weeks ago and the perpetrator got away scot free, apparently. The captain of the English rugby team is a recidivist thug, who should be banned from the sport. He concussed an Irish chap the other night. Is that not a discipline problem. Northampton cheated the other week by putting a chap back on who had just been knocked out. Is that not a discipline problem? That’s only in the last couple of weeks and I don’t watch a lot of rugby. I’d imagine there’s more.

Rugby makes a big deal that every one says please and thank you to the referee but it is riddled with violence and cynicism.

Hartley has had over one year of cumulative bans to date. Was sent off immediately and will serve another ban now. That’s a discipline issue of an individual player not a sport.

You make no mention of the dozens of pro games that are referred with no issue or no violence. Rugby is a reasonably dangerous sport with incidents of poor discipline. vast majority of acts off ill discipline are dealt with swiftly and appropriately. There is no discipline issue in the sport. There are injury issues but it’s a contact sport. But no discipline issues.

Once again you bring Owens and his views into it. Nothing to do with me. I haven’t passed any comment either way. I don’t care. I have little or no interest in soccer so have no idea if Owens has a valid point or not.

Your entitled to your view though. Have a nice day.

A fellow with over one year of cumulative bans in the sport is rewarded with the captaincy of one of the most important teams in the sport and you claim there is no issue as regards discipline? What sort of a message do you think this sends out about discipline?

Talk to Eddie Jones

Don’t be silly now. What sort of a message does it send out to have this recidivist, incurable thug, captaining a flagship team for the sport.

You’re missing his point. Nigel Owens has got a brass neck attempting to lecture football about disciplinary issues when you have swaggering thugs like Hartley running amok in rugby union.

What do Stephen Moore, Rory Best, Kieran Read, Greg Laidlaw, Alun Wyn Jones all have in common?

Yeah non violent international captains without disciplinary issues. Why don’t you talk about them instead of focusing on the player with the worst discipline in entire pro game as your example?

Fwiw I think it was a ridiculous decision by Jones and one I’d say which has caused serious ructions within the RFU. But they wanted Jones and he was setting all the conditions when they contracted him.

I’m not missing his point. He is claiming that rugby has a huge discipline issue and that precludes Owens from commenting on football. I have no idea what Owens is banging on about nor do I care. I just think he is incorrect in stating there is a diacipline issue within the entire sport. It’s fagan keeps bringing up soccer and Owens. I’m not adressing that point at all as iv said 3 times already
