That’s fucking hilarious
Real best fans in the wuddled
The reality is they’re the same rent-a-crowd. The same lads that went to France to change tyres are the same cunts inside in that bar. Event Junkies.
It’s an Irish thing in general… the vast majority of ‘fans’ are event junkies in this country - I’d say rugby probably brings a bigger crowd of people who have never even played any sport, but right across the sporting spectrum Irish people jump on a team when they are successful only…
Would that not be the case in other countries also? Genuinely asking your opinion here?
I don’t think it would. What sets Ireland apart is that going to see your local soccer team by and large isn’t a thing here, compared to England for example, and the GAA don’t have enough important games to encourage that kind of fandom
So we’re unique in having bandwagons?
To the extent we do, yes
Do the rest of the World know this?
Maybe not, but looking for a slap on the back as the best is something we do more than others…
We’re the best Bandwagoners in the World!
Woo hoo! Suck it rest of the world!
When I was a kid the only ones that played rugby were the ones that were sh!t at popular sports like hurling, footie, tennis, conkers, ones that required skill.
Footie?
I don’t think event junkies/bandwagons are the norm in all other countries. Especially bigger countries.
In England, many people could barely tell you the different between union and league. Certainly over there, if you say to a rugby fan that you don’t really follow rugby that closely, very few people bat an eyelid or care too much (even in the business world). You are scoffed at in Ireland when you say this.
Perhaps national pride bangwagons are a smaller nation thing. I assume most of Wales got behind their football team last summer in a similar way the Irish would? While England doing well in a major football tournament would be big news in England, I think there’d still be millions with no interest.
Has someone really, really now, scoffed at you because you don’t follow rugby? You must run into some fair bellends if that’s the case
I’d often meet a fella who had no interest in sport and think to myself this lads not to be trusted, but I wouldn’t scoff at them.
Ok maybe scoffed is a slight over-statement. But I have had plenty of strange looks and responses yes. I’ve definitely had patronising comments made to me on how I could prefer soccer over rugby. Even more so when I say I’ve an interest in the League of Ireland and watching my hometown team when I can.
I’m unsure of your question if in fact there is one.
AFL was popular when you were growing up?

AFL?

In fairness you sound like a bit of an oddball
