The Rugby Thread (Part 1)

Did u get a game?

Are you inferring it was fixed? The only home nation never to make the semi finals and Scotland. When it could’ve been NZ and SA.

Luck is a tricky thing.

Great that we have such an easy group and Schmidt will be able to rest the Kearneys and Fergus McFadden for the quarters.

Fantastic to see the interest in rugby around here remains :ok_hand::clap:

We are absolutely home and hosed here. One of our games is against a tennis player. We could nearly rest Devin Toner for that one.

Out of curiosity/bemusement, how are Ireland top seeds? Did they do well in the last World Cup? I don’t think they’ve done anything of note in the 5 Nations for a few years now? Lost to two second seed teams earlier this year.

They won a reperchage.

Seeds are based on rankings, the same as the FIFA World Cup.

Are ranking points awarded on being sh!te? They lost to Wales and Scotland who are lower seeds.

Ireland have consistently been one of the Top 10 teams in world rugby.

Rugby and global are mutually exclusive.

Away from home which limits the negative impact of same.

Ireland always perform well between World cups.

Not correct. Ireland were absolutely shithouse 1988-1999 inclusive. Zero major Southern Hemisphere wins. 5 wooden spoons and only once did Ireland finish above 4th in the Five Nations. Included into that time were defeats twice to Namibia and three times against Italy. If it wasn’t for the Welsh being robbed of some of their best players by rugby league you could add on another few wooden spoons.

Sorry I meant since people became interested in rugby when Munster was formed.

Playing to the gallery you old rogue

Whom Ireland actually finished ahead of in said competition.

We have to be in with a good shout here. We may not even need to play whatever is left of Jonathan Sexton in 2019 in the group stages, saving the likes of him for the crunch quarter finals tie.

Two full years to perfect our kicking the ball out of the pitch game such that we are better at kicking the ball out of the pitch than anyone else.
