The Rugby Thread (Part 2)

The only proper Rugby Football game* i ever attended was Shannon v Clontarf in Clanwilliam Football Club circa 2000.

Hayes/Foley/Quinlan and a few more big wigs were all playing. I still have the programme somewhere.

*Well i also saw JJ Hanrahan kick a last gasp drop goal winner for Rockwell College against Glenstal or someone at the same venue in the 2010 Senior Cup Quarter Final when dodging off school one Wednesday afternoon.

That was a unreal shannon team full of internationals. Very rarely will you see a capped irish player playing these days

The same will happen Club GAA soon if these Split Season Zealots have their way.

I think they had Marcus Horan and a few more too. Tipp Town’s own Johnny Lacey on the wing. He’s now involved in Refereeing at the top level.

Clem Ryan on CKR FM used to give this grand old competition grand coverage back in the day. The Sunday sports programme was terrific listening.

The Quinlan’s also Clanwilliam lads would have been involved as well

Lacey is working for world rugby now in some referee development role

Id know Davy fairly well. Him.and his now wife stayed with me for 6 weeks or so in Oz many moons back

Her father, Dr Little, would have been the head the doctor for Shannon for decades.

Davy teaching in Munchins these days i think. Sound skin.

Yeah Alan was playing and Davy too.

Clanwilliam are struggling big time these days by all accounts.

Bungalow as he is known.

They are in top division of junior rugby anyway same as kilfeacle. Wouldn’t hear much about them underage though really (they are actually joined with kilfeacle at some age groups :joy:)

Fyp

Lacey was mentioned on the radio the other day, he is working as some kind of referee talent scout now. Joy Neville got a new job with World Rugby also.

@flattythehurdler another post for you to fix

Will removing the “croc roll” be good or bad news for Ireland

Good news less career ending injuries

Will be interesting to see if they bring in the lower tackle height next season at pro level.

Very heavily enforced at amateur level this season and worked pretty well…only the lazy or stupid couldn’t adapt

Is this story about a certain provincial academy player getting raided and caught for drugs a true story at all lads?

A version of that story goes round every few years

I’d have to assume so. The lad is back training this week for the first time since the bust made news. He has a great future and is from a decent family from all accounts so it didn’t make a lot of sense.

TFK had this Kinsella’s card marked way way back

Yeah it has worked well tbf, i thought the refs would have a hard time but most plsyers have adapted well with the exceptions of the lazy cunts
