In fairness himself and Cummins were good on that penalty/black card.
So technically it was the correct decision but in reality was black all day, rule needs changing

Someone had it somewhere else. A tweet from Verney. Foul was outside large square.
Loads of loose ends in the rule and will have to be revisited/clarified by the powers that be.
Could also be interpreted as a red and a 21 yard free.

Clare still shoulda seen it out but that’s a very very poor decision
I’m actually in disbelief with the over complication of this black card decision, talk about tying yourself up in knots.
Its a filthy ‘tackle’.
I didn’t think Quaid had it in him to do something like that.
All Clare needed was two to three more points and like you said, they ballsed it up but you do expect a certain level of officiating when you get to this point but they didn’t get that today.

Quaid stops Duggan from getting the chanve to play the ball again by taking him out. Both with his leg and a hand through the helmet.
Red card. If not a red, a certain black card.
The Limerick crowd around me today couldn’t believe it.

Diarmuid Kirwan’s moment of infamy in 2009 is the only thing that comes remotely close in a hurling context to todays incident.
Even the Limerick’s had Colin Ryan out warming up ready to go.
It’s a simply extraordinary sequence of events.

It baffled me really to watch a referee effectively make up a rule in live time.
I’ll say something for Johnny Murphy (I do hope he doesn’t ref a Cork game ever ever again but that’s beside the point) or Seán Stack. They wouldn’t shy away from making a big call there.
I fear that Tyler did.
What was made up? And why did the other 2 officials agree when asked?

It is a stupid rule. But it seems the decision was technically correct.
They need to get rid of the black card altogether. Yellow card and a penalty is plenty punishment.
The idea you can just bear hug a fella and he stays standing so it’s not a black card is stupid too

What’s considered “possession of the ball” ? For a start, you don’t have to have the ball in your hand to have possession of it in hurling.
Duggan was given no chance to keep possession of the goalwards flick. Quaid denied him the opportunity to do so by taking him out. If Quaid doesn’t hit him, Duggan is going to KEEP possession and score.
A number of penalties and black cards have been awarded this year where forwards have not had clean possession for fouls that were way less cyncial. Fitzgerald was punished twice in Walsh Park.
What Quaid did is exactly why the black card was brought in.
It’s a shambolic decision in light of what has been given all year. You can’t all of a sudden tear up that template now that we’re in Croke Park in the dying moments of an All-Ireland semi final.

Rules are rules.
Refs cant make decisions to keep irate tippos and Carkies happy. It was spot on by the letter of the law.

That siege mentality Ben has been trying to instill has seeped into the supporters. Canning had it the wrong way around
60,000 people baying at you in the last 5 minutes of an All Ireland semi final and having the calmness to take a moment, consult with his officials, maybe glance towards the Ard Chomhairle and ensure you have the exact wording of the rule correct. What a performance.
