The Saturday/Sunday Game Thread

Who, George Clooney?

Hurling on first.

Itā€™s about time RTE treated Ulster football with the respect it deserves, I switched over to BBC NI for the pre game, half time and post match coverage and it was nice to hear knowledgeable people like Oisin McConville and Paddy Bradley talk about the game.

I watched the game itself on RTE as it was in HD but the usual shite was being rolled out like ā€œthe football might not be the bestā€ but it will be a great battle. The skill level of Ulster players is far higher than the rest of the country.

You look at the way Tyrone players naturally kick off both feet, look at Richie Donnellyā€™s pinpoint 50 yard driving ball into Ronan Oā€™Neill on his weaker left foot and mugging off the Derry defender and keeper.

Itā€™s always the same, immense scores under the highest of pressure.

Some of the scores in the Tyrone Monaghan AI QF were brilliant last year. The opening 1-10 or so scored today were of the highest quality under real pressure.

The Dublin player took 6 steps before he hit the ball for the second goal

sure the football was on first today

The show started at 1.10pm and they spent the first 30 minutes talking shite hurling before taking a break with the football soon to throw in.

Liam Dunne is as thick as two short planks.

That is a completely different point. Cork - Tipp is a massive gaa game. Like Kerry - Dublin it always going to get precedence. No matter who else is on. Tyrone - Derry isnā€™t nearly as high profile a game.

What age are you?

Tyrone and Derry is the most intense rivalry in the game.

ā€¦21. Yes possibly to the locals but profile wise around the country it wouldnā€™t be nearly the draw of cork - tipp.

Around the country?

Only Munster takes hurling seriously. You have one county in Connacht that plays it, 0 in Ulster and about 2 or 3 in Leinster.

Utter shit. Stick hurling is popular in one province only

Iā€™m not sure if can you get viewing figures for the games today but the hurling will have more.

I doubt it.

The combined figures from BBC Ulster and RTE will dwarf the hurling figures.

Iā€™m not sure if you can get separate viewing numbers l.

You were only complaining about RTEā€™s coverage though so their ratings would be all that matters to this conversation

How would it be all that matters?

People who were dissatisfied with RTEā€™s coverage had the option to switch over to a channel where they felt adequate coverage was being provided.

The option was there.

A certain amount of people were always going to watch the game on the BBC so if RTE know that they are going to get less viewers for that game they are going to concentrate more on the other.

Also, lots of people from down the country wouldnā€™t watch an Ulster football game if it was on outside their bedroom window

So RTE is ran for the benefit of a few muldoons down in Munster?

No itā€™s ran for the benefit of the majority of their target audience

Are muldoons from Munster the majority of RTEā€™s target audience?
