What was Duignans response?

If you click on that it should open the thread of back and forth

There are plenty of elderly people who don’t get to watch the games that are on Sky. Duignan is right about that regardless of his relationship with the aul fella. Broadband is shite in much of rural Ireland as well so streaming not really an option either, in the odd case where there’s a laptop or an ipad in the house. It’s a question of values, ultimately. Don’t think there’s a right or wrong answer, it’s something that needs to be debated and people can make their own minds up after.

The Duffy/Clerkin axis was mentioned on here before and it was funny when Clerkin was wheeled out on League Sunday back in the winter/spring to promote/defend Duffy’s new football championship proposals. Duffy is close to Monaghan journalists and a young Malachy Clerkin used to pal around with him. I see another Monaghan chap Donnchadh Boyle had a piece in the Indo defending the Sky deal.

http://m.independent.ie/sport/gaelic-games/comment-having-it-all-free-to-air-is-a-worthy-idea-but-presence-of-sky-ensures-gaa-get-best-deal-possible-35916499.html

RTE might come across as less hypocritical on the issue if they bothered to provide decent coverage themselves.

When Sky got rights there was a view commonly put out that it would force RTE to “up their game”. They haven’t.

RTE have dropped their game, not upped it.

They provide derisory highlights of non-live matches. Meath v Donegal on Saturday for instance was a plum tie in the football championship that got about three minutes coverage.

The Sunday Game is an endless procession of talking heads rather than actual action.

The half-time analysis for the 4pm live match on a Sunday mainly consists of Nuacht.

They don’t bother their holes covering the league.

Some years back they provided a service where some matches that weren’t broadcast live on TV could be watched back in full on their website. That no longer exists.

The Game on Monday has been gone for 17 years.

Others in the GAA might come across as less hypocritical if they hadn’t been imploring for a decrease in the amount of live matches covered as they were doing some years back, and got.

Funny how it’s only matches covered by Sky that this “outrage” occurs over, rather than matches which get no coverage at all like Meath v Donegal.

Funny also how there’s no “outrage” over Saturday night league matches being on pay TV.

RTE not steaming matches is a fucking jokeshop

+1. RTÉ can go and fuck themselves. Their live GAA coverage starts in late May and ends in late September. They prioritise rubbish like rugby football in the winter/spring when hurling men are craving for them to show live action from the national leagues.

The live matches is partly an issue alright but as @Sidney has said its the rubbish highlights package that we then get Sunday evening which is fucking abysmal.

Provincial finals deserve a decent showing on a highlights package Sunday evening but up to finals they consistently show way more of an already screened game with further abysmal anaylisis while giving fucking 3 mins clips of games on elsewhere.

Only for TG4 and their excellent highlights programme every Monday nobody would see fuck all.
No offence to the Camogie championship, it deserves coverage in the poor form it gets but why could they not show some highlights of the Munster Minor Final? Even a clip of the trophy being lifted or paraded around the pitch.

Funny how you still have lads giving out about TG4 showing so many games

What rugby do they show that clashes with league matches pal?

The games on Saturdays and Sundays in the winter/spring, pal.

I doubt the 3 x 6N games they showed on Sundays in 2017 (none of which involved Ireland) impacted their decision not to show the league pal. They have two channels which they regularly simultaneously show sport on in any event if the desire was that strong.

RTE rugby coverage is a disgrace

What’s your  about pal. They show fuck all rugby any more outside of senior/20s/women’s 6n…the latter two which they are contract bound to show if broadcasting the senior internationals. It’s pitiful

I really would love to kick that Monaghan company man cunt Clerkins teeth down his throat. He exudes sneakiness. A two faced cunt who should be beaten to brink of his prissy I’m alright Jack sell out in a heartbeat life with a hurley the cunt. One of the slyest slimiest looking bastards ever to take to Gaa pitch.

Spot on. The Sunday Game is almost unwatchable. I have the playback option on gaago and usually can’t be bothered with it if I don’t wattch it on the Sunday night.

You could go back ten years ago and you’d still have most of the same pundits there talking the same old shite. Spillane, O’Rourke, Cyril, Loughnane etc.

The RTE coverage of league matches and the majority of non televised championship matches is abysmal. A three minute cameo in most cases with key moments like sendings off, bad misses or great saves frequently omitted. With match reports put together by the likes of Marie Crowe, Marie Treasa Ni Cheallaigh or Adrian Eames that would be transition year work placement student standard.

They’ve grown fat and comfortable for having a monopoly for so long and not even Sky entering the market has made them up their game.

TG4 put the cunts to shame. Just show the fucking games and less of the cult of the individual pundits.
