If he was around again would you have gone from Epsom to the Curragh for Irish Derby, then Ascot for the King George before Leopardstown or were they right to go Sandown - York instead?
I would not change a thing. six gp1âs, six months, 3 different distances, 3 different countries, a proper racehorse, no hiding under the bed in Newmarket like Frankel
They didnât go for the Irish Derby because of the ground.
A mile, a mile two and a mile four. He done it all.
Just watching the derby there, an army of Ballydoyle mugs flat out trying to catch him. Poetry in motion
Mickey Joe was asked if he had gone for the old triple crown would he have won the ledger over 1m6f. Ah he would⌠says Mickey⌠wouldnât even have to come off the bridle he added then
A great summation at the end
Sea The Stars had it all. A true history-maker, he was the first horse to ever do the Guineas/Derby/Arc treble. Not only did he have supreme talent though, but he also had a pedigree to die for and the dashing good looks to go with it. One of a kind.
The Mafia had a 2,3,4,5 at Epsom.
Jaysus I thought a few horses would have won the Guineas, derby and arc in same year. I thought John ox himself did it with Sinndar. Makes sst even more special
The mighty Nijinsky couldnât do it was over the top for the Arc
They couldnât put a glove on him that year
Nijinsky winning the ledger finished the ledger instead of making it. Trainers decided to skip it in case it effected the chances in Paris
Is there a DVD or doc I can watch tracking his magestic career?
Just watch the arc over and over. My mates uncle is Kinane and was on way out till STS arrived. Horse had everything he said.
The last 15 minutes of this covers Sea The Stars.
It was some way for Kinane to bow out but youâd wonder has John Oxxâs heart really been in the game since.
No more worlds to conquer and all that.
Lovely. The STS Netflix series canât be far off
Epic I remember a few pops off Chris tsui and family at time but they let oxx and kinane do their thing that season.
I had a right few quid on STS on the PM that day. Iâm glad he didnât go breeders or the leger.
Racing TV showed a lovely piece on him during the lockdown. Not sure when it was filmed but it was recent enough as it focused a bit on his Stud Career.
After the Arc, there wasnât a definitive Stud plan for a few weeks and Sea The Stars gave a few weeks ticking over, cantering on The Curragh.
Oxx and Kinane both reckoned he was only getting going at The Arc and he did his best ever piece of work the week before. He could have carried on as a 4 year old but deep down, everyone knew he had done it all.
I started crying when it over.
He is the sporting icon of our lifetimes, we could outlive the next 1000 pandemics and still never see another like Sea the Stars
Theyâre making a film on Frankel and Gordon Lord Byron had one done too so surely thereâll be something big done on STS in years to come.
It must have been a strange feeling for Oxx knowing that no matter what happened in the rest of his training life, heâd never again have a horse as good.
