DB pensions are a guaranteed income for life post retirement. They are great but are a massive burden on the company, hence why they are no longer offered to new enrollments in the private sector. The massive downside is the pension dies with you and cannot be inherited. You could work to 65 and die at 66, your wife gets nothing. Where as DC the value is passed on and the overall cost can be a lot less while the value is tied to financial markets but there is that risk
