Yeah. Think the singer died a couple of years ago.

[quote=âThrawneen, post: 169433â]Any of our slightly older posters remember this song? (Obviously not the really elderly like Fagan and Boxty). These lads were from Sligo and played Self Aid in Dalyer. Only heard it this week for the first time and I think itâs absolutely brilliant.

Self Aid was in the RDS you fucking gobdaw
Apologies you ornery, elderly cunt
Self Aid was a great concert IMO, I wasnât there, as I was 14 (the brother was, had a great day) but I watched the whole thing, some excellent performances that day from the remains of Thin Lizzy, the Pogues were remarkably drunk, but brilliant. Cactus World News were very good, as were InTua Nua (Leslie Dowdall  ) and U2 were brilliant (donât give a fuck what any of you say about them). Van Morrison - âIf Van was a gunslinger, heâd shoot copycatsâ
Were you at it Fagan?
The shocking thing about Self Aid, from a neutral perspective is the stage times. Everyone only got 15 mins, so even the star attractions like Elvis, Rory, U2 and Van only got the same amount of time as acts like Those Nervous Animals (who, if you watch on Youtube, are horrendously out of tune.). Youâd never get that these days.
This was featured before on one of the HBO 24/7 episodes and is currently being used on one of the trailers for the new Game of Thrones series. Quite striking.
Rory, I forgot Rory, he was fucking awesome that day.
Was the self aid the one where Bono, man of the people went around the back of the stage drinking with a few youths?
Yes Fitzy I was at Self Aid.
Nice melancholy tune for a friday afternoon

Thatâs absolutely brilliant.
I always felt this is the most melancholy Morrissey tune though:
