Worth it for the first minute before the cunt on the soundboard turns down Bradfield’s guitar.

In fairness Jeff Magnum (NMH) has been making records as far back as Oldham.

Both great artists though

Now you’re talking!

Great album (THB), listened to it at extremely high volume last night with my young lad who’s a big fan. Ritchey gone 20 years this year, hard to believe. Fantastic lyricist, but couldn’t play guitar worth a shit, they were effectively always a 3 piece musically. I read somewhere that in their earlier days his guitar was set to zero on the soundboard.

Richey was the joint creative force behind the band. You could see Nicky Wire mellow a bit after getting married, but Richey kicked it up to 11 lyrically on THB. 4 st. 11 lbs. remains one of the bleakest tracks I’ve ever heard. Right up there with Richard and Linda Thompson’s “At the end of the Rainbow”. They honestly did not put a foot wrong on that record.

Did you play the UK or US version? The label insisted on re-mixing the album for the US (they got Tom Lord-Alge to do it), but I don’t think it ever got released there (as far as I recall). It is a fantastic version though.

I have the UK version. But thanks for the reminder, I just wrote Santa a letter requesting the 2014 box set, heavyweight vinyl, remastered UK and US versions and Astoria live gig (last with Richey I think)
I’m a big RT fan, stellar guitar player. A few of the R&L T albums are classics, Shoot out the Lights and I went to see the bright lights, and most of his solo stuff is superb. His trio of albums produced by Mitchell Froom are outstanding

No room for ballads on that album. Nice song though.

One from back in the days when fuzz started growing around the little general…
