The Smashing Tunes Thread (Part 1)

A lad recommended her to me last year, and while I instantly liked the album, I only gave it a couple of spins on Spotify at the time. I never realised she was a one-man band and all that jazz until I randomly put it on today. Will be watching out for upcoming shows fo sho.

She has a massive female following so you will observe great talent at her gigs.

Occidental viewpoint Japan-themed tunes

In early 2002 whatever travel programme RTE had at the time had a feature from Tokyo with Kathryn Thomas, presumably aimed at Eire supporters thinking of travelling to the 2002 World Cup

The following tunes were heavily featured in that, em, feature, playing as Kathryn walked around the seedier areas of Tokyo

So I’ve always associated them with Japan and what I imagine to be the Blade Runner-esque madness of Tokyo

They have to be listened to back to back because they’re essentially the same track

The Chemical Brothers
Song To The Siren

The Chemical Brothers
Three Little Birdies something something

No explanation needed for this classic

The Manic Street Preachers
Motorcycle Emptiness

This is what stood for pop music in the early 60s.

Wow.

From a superb sounding and enjoyable album, just as good as their first imo. Recorded in a week in their cramped rehersal room after their produder Paul Rothchild walked out saying the songs were shit cocktail music. Morrison was a complete madman at that stage, only about six months before his death.
