The Smashing Tunes Thread (Part 1)

When they stick me in the ground, they can stick this on, and let it play through to the end of The End.

Great band.

Did I tell ye my Bob Mould story? Well, itā€™s not much of a storyā€¦

Iā€™ve got a CD copy of this album signed by Mould. An hour later he did this song.

No. Is it linked to him signing your CD?

It is. Some friends were supporting him for a few dates around Ireland (Dublin and Galway, I think). One of the parts of the deal was that they were also driving Mould around, which was no bother they said. A nice fella and good to chat away. Was big into techno I think at the time, but had no problems with the lads playing Smiths and Pavement for most of the journey.

Anyway, they pull in at that big petrol station in Athlone to get some diesel and something to eat from the deli. Mould comes out with a full back of Denny ham and a can of coke, and eats the ham slice by slice with nothing else. Polished the pack off. Proper roaster behaviour. I might him a few hours later in the apartment he was staying at in Galway. Chatted away for ten to fifteen minutes. Someone else was getting a record signed and I remembered I had this CD in the car. ā€˜No bother,ā€™ he said. I wouldnā€™t usually bother getting stuff signed but itā€™s a nice one to have.

I was surprised when I heard that Mould was gay. Not that there is necessarily a type, but I canā€™t imagine many hard rockers falling into the category,

and Hart was bisexual.

RIP

You did. Good yarn in fairness.

I thought I had told it alright!

For me Mouldā€™s best work is Copper Blue with Sugar. Christ but that is a brilliant album - and seemed to come out of nowhere.

Unrale record. Still making great rocking tunes. This came out last week

Savage album. Up there with the best American hardcore punk albums. Still not in the same league as Fresh Fruit, Damaged or Minor Threat Complete Discography, but not far off it.

Hands down his best.

Ian MacKayeā€™s lyrics are possibly more important now than they were in 1981. Black lives matter, or all lives matter?

Iā€™m sorry
For something that I didnā€™t do
Lynched somebody
But I donā€™t know who
You blame me for slavery
A hundred years before I was born

Guilty of being white

Iā€™m sorry
For something that I didnā€™t do
Lynched somebody
But I donā€™t know who
You blame me for slavery
A hundred years before I was born

Guilty of being white

Iā€™m a convict (Guilty!)
Of a racist crime (Guilty!)
Iā€™ve only served (Guilty!)
Nineteen years of my time

Iā€™m sorry
For something that I didnā€™t do
Lynched somebody
But I donā€™t know who
You blame me for slavery
A hundred years before I was born

Guilty of being white

Masterful by Dylan.
