The Smashing Tunes Thread (Part 2)

I think I preferred the first album

In a sign of the (different) times, I swapped an echobelly album (on tape) for the Now I’m a cowboy album (on tape)

That sound just transported me back… 90s rock !!

Bang of Boney M off that

I buzzed through a few of their songs after listening to that.

Tonight and 1979 are two songs that would give a dog an existential crisis. The nostalgia is like a knife to the gut…1979 in particular captures the almost impossible- that feeling of youth being endless… summer nights drawing to an end and school not being far off but still having a week or two of just hanging around the estate with your mates doing nothing but chatting care free shit and laughing. It was living in the moment and that moment was for forever. It’s a feeling we’ve all had and lost but we never got to mourn it. That’s why it packs a punch when we remember… it goes way too fast.

That’s a very underrated album. Siamese Dreams and Mellon Collie got deserved adulation and Adore was a bit divisive when it came out, but it’s really stood the test of time, the first 4 tracks are all classics and the album flows really well unlike Mellon Colllie which is a bit of a hot mess with many great songs scattered around randomly. You’re right about the memories, the first Pumpkins song that hooked me was Thirty-Three and I’ve have never got that song out of my head.

They had some fantastic stuff.

Class. Corgan is a very odd character. Terrible performer.

Doesn’t matter. He’s a top quality songwriter.
