The Smashing Tunes Thread (Part 2)

A great radio band, never really got the recognition they deserved, most people probably wouldn’t know them but recognise and love a lot of their songs

No21 on the list of all time American bands.

A big influence on Charles Thompson and Pixies.

I meant in Ireland/UK etc, they were very popular in the States, probably toured a lot there and not so much outside, but I might be wrong.
I remember hearing them a lot on New York radio in the late 80s /early 90s, 92.3 KRock in particular, I just felt they weren’t a name band over here
Great band nonetheless

I’d say it’s an age thing. I’d expect people @balbec s age and older knew all about the Cars.

Thanks for remembering me pal . It gets lonely here in the nursing home.

Rightly recognised. Weezer, The Killers, Smashing Pumpkins and many more owe a bit of their sound to The Cars.

Their debut album from 1978 no less is one of the all time greatest debuts. Still sounds great.

This song came on in a well known Dublin Pub at the weekend and the place went absolutely banana’s. Really felt like we were back.

He was around 20 or 21 when he wrote that.

Left The Smiths when he was 23. And he acted as their manager for much of that time.

Extraordinary.

He’s a prick but he’s had some cracking tunes.

Elton John - I guess that’s why they call it the blues

Link Wray - Fallin’ Rain
