The Snooker Thread (Part 1)

Hendry is a bit like Roger Federer in tennis. Absolutely dominant for a long time before a new talent era emerged to compete with him and ultimately leave him behind. O’Sullivan is the Djokovic or Nadal to Hendry’s Federer. A good point and I agree with you.

Hendry didn’t dominate for a long time. It just felt like it cos he won everything.

Aesthetics and longevity are two factors that also come into the mix when weighing up the merits of the greatest ever. Federer and O’Sullivan the most naturally talented, gifted and entertaining to ever play their respective sports. O’Sullivan won his 7th UK Championship last night, 25 years on from his first. Federer won his first Grand Slam in 2003 and his most recent nearly 15 years on in 2018. Think its only Ken Roswall who had comparable longevity and a longer gap between first and last Grand Slam wins.

Higgins, Williams and O’Sullivan have won ranking tournaments the last couple of years. Goes to prove snooker isn’t what it was if lads in their 40s are winning the big ones despite being 15 years past their prime. There’s no one Federer’s age still competing at the top level in mens’ tennis.

A 147 for the great John Higgins today.

Mark Selby takes a 2-1 lead over Stephen Maguire in what is probably the pick of the first round matches.

Mid session interval in the last of the quarter finals. All square at 2-2 between Neil Robertson and Barry Hawkins.

Abhoy Ding, what a pot on that Black with the Rest.

Misses the yellow but flukes it on a double. Max is still on…

Ah feck. Must have thought he had it after that yellow

Green was very tough, position off last red fucked him.

Yeah always on the back foot since that

He was chasing it from about the 8th red and pulled off some great recovery shots but never got plum position back. Good match now. Ronnie was 4-0 up.

Sullivan beats Ding 6-3.
